Some pictures of my new ML slightly modded
Things I did so far:
-35% tint on front windows
-debadged the rear
-20 inch w164 ML63 AMG rims
-aluminum door pins
-no hole adjustable license plate mount (might adjust it a bit higher)
Things still on list:
-mudguards & all season mats( for winter mode)
-aluminium pedals, chrome hood fins and door handles
-debating on fender flares, but cant seem find any plain ones (similar to x5 4.8 is)
-exhaust tips-seems like this will be a difficult one

I just love the stance with the AMG Rims!

I think I'm going to do the same with my ML550 when it comes in.
I didn't consider getting the ones that would be fore a w164 ML63. Are they different than the 20" wheels for the W166 ML63?

Also i think you can get AMG rims on a 550 as an option, probably wont be that wide though.
No AMG kits, just a base 350.
I just made a DIY Thread on the license plate mount.

My M550 will have the AMG-style 20 inch, 9j rims. In the US, you can't order the 21 inch 10j rims unless it's an ML63. The ML63 has slightly wider fender flarings to accommodate the wider tire. And you're right, while MB does offer a an AMG-styel 21 inch wheel for non-ML63 in Canada and elsewhere, they are not as wide as the 21 inch wheels on the ML63 (only 9.5j).
I've seen even third-party 22 inch wheels on a standard 166 ML350 and they look pretty good, even though they do stick out from the wheel wells just a tad. However, I woudn't want to go with 22 inch, since I assume the ride quality would diminish quite a bit. I'm guessing the 20 inchers are in the sweet spot of ride vs. looks.
On my old X5, I had a staggered setup of 20x10 in the front, and 20x11 in the back, and it looked amazing. But I didn't think 20x10 or 20x11 is possible on the ML....it seems to require a bigger rim when you get to that tire width. So to it has to be 21x10 for a 10 inch wide tire. But please correct me if I'm wrong....are those tires you have on there now 20x10? What's the actual tire size, front and back?

I had a few friends that had X5s sports and the width of the rims/tires make the them look like beasts-i think x5 sport are running 315 tires in the back.
I would go 22s, bye/bye ride quality, off road capability-also they just look to big.
Also the ride quality didnt change much, definitely better than X5 with 20s and i dont even have air suspension on my ML

Yes, that's what I used to have, and X5 with the Sports option, and they indeed made it look like a beast (a giant tiger with big paws). The 315 tires were indeed in the rear, on 20x11 inch rims. The front 20x10 rims had the 295/40/20.
I felt so amazingly planted as I took turns 'corner-flat' or hairpin turns, including off and off ramps. I also took of the run-flats and put on the Continental DSWs to improve the comfort, and they were very nice.
I would love to have your setup. So, I can put 295/40/20 tires on standard 20 AMG rims, and this will not affect the odometer or create other issues?
Why don't they come that way? Attached is a page from the 2013 ordering guide from the UK, that shows the different wheel and tire configurations. For the 20 inch wheels, it spec 265/45 on 8.5j x 20 tires.
Do you know the actual model or parts number of your wheels? Did you need to add any spacers? Where did you buy them?
Finally, what tires did you use? Thanks!!

And why wouldn't Airmatic be up to handling an extra 5 pounds? They worked on the AMG with Airmatic? And aren't the AMG 21 in wheels that you can put on a Canadian ML just as heavy?

I dont think airmatic would be a problem, but cant say from personal experience since i have regular suspension on my ML.
