Night Vision Assist +

Does anyone have Night Vision Assist + on the ML (or on another Mercedes) and think it's more than just a gimick? Can it help in dense fog or a blinding snow storm? If it's useful, please state in what way? I know the screen is off to the side which is not ideal. I live in a fairly rural area of Southern New England and will make some trips to VT and NH. Thanks

Thanks for the link. It seems the consensus is...it's pretty useless.

It is one of the few options that I avoided on my GL order

It desperately needs a heads-up display. In the center console it's counter-productive. This should be blatantly obvious to the product guys, and I'm sure it was. They probably lost out to the bean-counters.

A gaggle of MB's
No, they lost out because it's a "old feature" and has always been worthless..

I guess it all depends where you live. We have a route 26 which goes from Portland to the coast over the coast range. At night the road is blacker than the ace of spades. Shortly after I got my 2013 ML350 we went to the coast and came back at night; I had the night view on. My adaptive headlights had just went back to low beams due to an oncoming car when I noticed movement in the night view display. Sure enough it was a herd of deer. I saw them early enough to get slowed down before they crossed the road. In this case night view paid for itself because I believe I would have nailed the herd. Like anything else you cannot dwell on the screen but must merely keep glancing at it. Perhaps I have a slight advantage as I was a commercial pilot for over 40 years and am used to a "cross scan". As for its use in fog and snow I can't help you but in moderate rain it does not work well not because it lacks the range, but rather because the rain obscures the camera and the wipers do not cycle fast enough to keep it clear.

PS, as ciparis said a HUD would really be nice!
