E-Z Pass transponder mounting

Since I don't see any tinting on my 2013 ML windshield, I guess I can mount my E-Z Pass transponder at the top of the windshield to the right of the rear view mirror. If anyone has experience mounting their transponder I would appreciate your suggestions if my proposed location will result in any problems. Thanks

Our toll road system is replacing their old school transponder "boxes" with stickers - they look really ugly when placed onto the ML windshield because they have a great big "E470 toll" advertisement, and there is no place to hide them (such as a blacked out portion on the windscreen).

I'm thinking about getting some black double-sided tape to place between the sticker and the windshield, hopefully this will make the sticker a little less conspicuous?

In Seattle we have this new ugly sticker system as well. I simply left the sticker on the backing that it came in and just hold it up to my windshield every time I drive through, rather than leaving that ugly thing on my car all the time. The rest of the time it lives in the ashtray or at home in a drawer.

A trick, if you don't want to see it all the time is that you can put it on your sunroof. It'll be more hidden this way.

Thanks for the reply another_geek and MLee. I stuck it on today. I just wanted to make sure that there wasn't some coating on the windshield I was missing that would prevent the transponder from working properly.

When we lived in NJ, we used the front plate mounted E-Z Pass transponder as we didn't like the aesthetics of mounting the boxes on the windshield permanently or keeping it in the center console and taking it out when needed.

"rkao" In NC we don't have front plates, so no holes in the front of my ML (which is a good thing). The windshield mounted transponder I just received is much smaller than my old one. It's the same width, but only about 1/3 the length, so with it mounted at the top of the windshield I can't see it from the driver's seat.

We mount our EZ pass in the center of the windshield in front of the rear view mirror as high as possible just below the Lane Keeping Assist Camera. We travel across the border and through the express toll lanes in NY, PA & NJ with no issues.

You can notice the white transponder but if centred and square it is fine.
