Illuminated Star ....mounted!!!!

Hi Friends ... I'm Alfred and i post from Italy...........sorry for some errors.
I've mounted the Illuminated Star on my Ml W 166 .
This is the video of my car

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9WL_...ature=youtu.be

the star lights up when I open the car, and stays on while driving the car.
i 'can still turn it off when you want with a remote control inside the car.
The Star is connected to a dimmer for led and with with i can also adjust the intensity of 'bright

Very nice set up.
I know some members will find it too flashy but I like the options you have to turn it off and on with your remote.
I assume this is a custom set up meaning not standard from factory. Can you expand on what you used?

I post some pictures of my work....

it's simple

you can order only the Light Star .....the code for ML W 166 you can read on the box of the picture.

than remove the original star......se the pictures.......it very simple ......rotate to the left and extract..

The Light Star you can connected at the light position lamp ( t 10 5 watt)

Between the Light Star and light position you can use the dimmer in the picture with the remote control you can buy it here for example.....

Kind Regards

Alfred

Alfred,
Thanks for the video and photos and it looks very cool. Mind to share the picture on how you connect to the power? Btw, the remote control idea is great.

is'very simple .... partially open the plastic cover on right fender. In this way you can see from underneath the large plug that carries current to the entire lantern. Than with a tester you find the positive wire of the position lamp...than with a current tap like you see in the picture you cm take the positive wire for the dimmer. The negative wire from the body car

Alfred,

Is the remote control mandatory or is it just an option to control when to have the star light on?

when you remove the old star, will you see all the wiring in it or should you separately wire it?

which year ML350 is it? 2013 or 2014 ?

I will have my 2014 ML350 delivered this week and want to have the illuminated star mounted by myself.

As Stas2007 requested, can you please please please post the pic of the connections so that we dont make any mistake

I think Alfred is just using the remote to turn off the star manually(lets say during the day), because the star is connected to the LED daytime running lights, which are normally always on when driving.

Ideally the best connection would be to the "orange eybrows" (well they are orange in USA, white everywhere else) since they turn on when you lock/unlock the ML, turn on automatically at night stay OFF during the day.

Considering he doesnt have bi-xenon headlights hence no eyebrows, the remote control connection is probably the best alternative.

Stas2007,

I am from USA, not sure if i have bi-xenon lights. I did not order any special lighting package so assuming i would get the regular ones.

You have mentioned 2 options, to connect to the Orange lights (to have it on only during night) and to connect it to LED lights (to have it on almost all the time the LED lights are on).
Do you know the connections for both these options? Will i be seeing the connection wires once i pull out the existing star?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-Benz-Illuminated-LED-Star-ML-ML350-ML550-ML63-W166-Genuine-2013-13-/121080877368?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item1c30fb9138
they send a module that work with your factory key, all factory parts, the only thing is you can't keep the light on all the time (witch is good for me).

I am planning to buy it from the same person on ebay. Can you please help me with your experience with the installation? will the star be illuminated all the time during the night when the head lights are on?

Installation was breeze, very easy, just time consuming (about 2-3 hours) easy on me !! I am not a tech !! if you want to do the things right, run the wiring nice & neat (like factory).
Run the star on all the time I don't know, I like the way it is, running the star on all the time is a little show off for me but it is a taste issue... maybe you can tap with your headlights..

I've a Ml W 166 2012 with Xenon lamps aftermarket. To connect Only the star is very simple. The star has to wire + and - . The wire - at the body of the car and wire + at the wire positive of little position lamp...The wire of the position lamp (with other wire) is under the Main box lamps....

Are you saying the illuminated star is possible to order together with distronic on the new 2014 MLs?

Alfred, I did not get MY 14 yet but want to know if we will be able to see the necessary wires to connect the illuminated star after we remove the actual star (by turning left and extracting)
Is it so simple that we just connect the +ve of Illuminated star to one wire in the car and -ve wire to another?

I got my 2014 ML350 yesterday. I was able to pull out the regular star as per your instructions. I opened the hood and found the place where the -ve connections are located (shown in my attached pic). But I was not able to find the place to put in the +ve of the star as shown in you pic 9 and 10.

Can i please request you to highlight (in my attached pic) the area where i can find the part shown in pic 9 and 10?
