An ongoing +/- list of my new ML63 AMG

Weighing in...
Good day...
I've had my ml63 now for 3 plus months. I've got the multi contour and overall I'm not as pleased with the seats as I was with the ones in my e63. Do yourself a favor. Get rid of the running boards. They are an unnecessary hinderance. Plus living out west in the winter they'll just destroy your pant legs in the winter. Yes the side bolsters are high but I found I've gotten used to them. I've been to the track already a couple of times and the seats have worked well.
I find that in S mode there is no lag at all, actually it becomes a bit twitchy on the throttle response. I prefer C mode around town but miss the throttle blips of S mode.
If you hit up 6thgear.com and flip through their picture galleries you'll see pics of my ML at the track. Now I have to go outside and see who built mine...

No such site 6thgear.com
I must look into removing the RBs...any idea it there is a replacement part to take it's place ?
Too bad we can't
1/ change throttle mapping to use S throttle characteristics in C
2/ have the option to default vehicle start in S

Should be...
July and sept this year. Sept pics were just last week so probably aren't up yet. Not been up against any x5's but most of the p's that come up to the track are turbos or rs3's. But I'll blow the doors off most audi's, boxsters and caymans. I've also lowered it by 3/4 inch so the weight transfer issue on braking is a non issue...

If black I found it..I would think the ML would do well with some mods..
-better tires
- suspension mods (lowering)
-and the given exhaust/tune/intake (power mods)

Black it is...
Gonna burn off the michelins that came with it... I can get a bit of a drift going hard into a corner. Probably going to put a set of p0's on next summer... I'm going to hold tight on the flash until its through the OBD port.

I was typing my last post when you posted about lowering...did you use Renntech module or mechanical ?
I've not tracked my ZR1 but buddy did his in autocross and no P car could compete...even GT3

Mechanical
Used HD lowering links. Adjustable, affordable and work like a charm. My problem is that even turned off there are still a few nannys hanging tight in some tight cornering manoevers. I think mb lawyers are concerned about roll over. I've heard that a tune will eliminate some of the nannys..
All in good time. Are you headed down to Vegas in November with amg?

All W166 ML63's that are not specd with the running boards come instead with painted to match side rocker panels/ side skirts. If you are going to replace the running boards & want to keep it factory that's the set-up. IMO the side skirts look better too, they follow the styling lines of the bottom of the front & rear bumpers. You can see it in the attached pic :

Nanook,
Some great points you made really agree with you, especially the positive points
Also couldn't agree more about your opinion on the ml550 vs ml63 you are so correct!
Regarding the windshield sprayers i think yours are not set correctly because i found them just perfect.
What tires do you have? Pirelli pzero or conti uhp?

2013 ML-63 AMG- 2010 C350 4matic
I am driving my ML-63 since October 2012 and had ample chance to test all systems.
In S mode, it starts in the 1st gear. No delay.
In C mode, it starts in 2nd gear, hence the delay.
In C mode, you can switch manually to 1st gear. No delay.
I experienced that infamous split second hesitation delay with the W164, MB copied and pasted the same delay for the W166.
One serious gripe: the stupid maintenance counter (15 days to service..). My previous E-Class had a system which analyses oil viscosity and conductivity before issuing an estimated mileage before service. Many car companies adopted this smart system but MB opted out. Even AMG which claims that its engines are different included that annoying chronological warning for the engine maintenance.
Besides that I love this vehicle for its superior comfort and performance.

I can't wait for the sprint booster to be available for this vehicle...I know the throttle response is better in S but the hesitation is not completely gone (always)...
And lately I'm finding the seat bottom is very hard...hurts the butt and needs additional fill...the contour is a nice fit but just too hard and mine is missing the bottom and side bolster adjustments
Tires are 160 rated...buddies E63 has the same tire but 220 rated...I doubt I'll get much past 10K with these...I wonder why MB opted for the 160 rated rubber..?
Also added to the "-" list..
-no clip/holder for fuel cap on fuel door
Minor I know but some simple intuition here MB

tires are not all equal
if im correct, you mentioned you had p0's on the car, correct? there is a bit more to the tire other than the wear rating, there is also the load rating. on our cars we require a 107. I bet the cars on your buddies e63 are not rated for that much weight. Thats why i cant put on a set of Super Sports...
Hope the seat issue gets cleared up for you. I have the opposite problem, my seat creaks a bit sometimes and Ive had the frame replaced already once. Im a heavy set guy though.
just my $.02.
cheers!

Yes there is a clip under the hinge. Look carefully. You can slide the side of the cover safely and neatly. It takes some practice to get used to it, after all this is a German design, not supposed to be easy nor user friendly.
