Blackvue DR500 in ML
Hi,
I just wanted to share my mounting of a Blackvue DR500 in my ML. I didn't find power that is switched with the ignition, but the power of the mirror lights is switched off when the car gets looked, and that works for me since I'm not interessted in the parking mode.

Mirror light
Hi,
Just use a plastic tool (like screw driver but plastic) and insert it on the right short hand side. There is a small clip that you press to the left while pulling the light down wards. It was a bit tricky to get the cable there, but not impossible.
The white cable is +12, I use a "current thief" the blue part (down't know the right english word for it), to connect my cable to the white original one. Ground I take from the same place as described earlier in this post.
Good luck!

Cables
The tricky part was to get the cable from camera behind the plastic covers on the wind shield up to the midpanel (reading lights, sunroof buttons etc) and further to the mirror light, unvisible inside the roof.
Ground is the brown cable where Nanook connected his green cable as you can see on his photos.

On this light I guess power is only when you open visor or it is constant power in tis wires?

This is great intel, thanks to everyone for their contributions. Costco is now carrying the Black Vue so Im thinking of getting the 500. A few questions:
Nanook: Did you use a similar install process for your camera as you did your Escort?
Kai/qcskaeb: Did you need to buy a separate wire to hardwire your BlackVue or did it come with the package?
Anyone have feedback with the Black Vue 500 or other cam?
Anyone actually have experience turning in video from your camera to insurance or law enforcement? Aside from feeling good about having a camera, I'm wondering if it serves a functional purpose.
Thanks!

I connected my camera at the same location as the detector...and they both stay on full time..never an issue..I used the camera power lead and cut it and spliced to an invisicord and hardwired it to the same location as detector..
I buy from here..good pricing and free shipping..get the dr 550 both front and rear for $275 and free shipping

The invisicord is only for radar detectors, no? And the Blackvue for example, seems to offer two options - (1) use the power cord that plugs into the cigarette lighter or (2) purchase separately the "black magic" cord with a bulky transformer box that plugs into a fuse. I'm thinking there has to be a better cord that plugs into the power source near the rearview mirror console.
Also, if you were in the market for a new cam, would you go with the Blackvue or the ITB?
Thanks!

Invisicord will also sell you just the ends so you can build your own cable as part of their DIY kit rather than cut up a pre-made invisicord.

sorry, i'm on this forum late.
I have Escort 9500ix and will the inviscord work? I mean, will it turn off the power when i turn off the car? sounds like there should be some power that only turns on with the power, maybe home link? looking to pick up my 2012 ML-350 this weekend and I want to start "MAKE IT MINE"
