She hit the garage and scratched the bumper and thought it would be a good idea to put it in reverse it gun it She ripped the whole front end off the car, i have it holding with zip ties But thank God shes okay, the car can be fixed. When she called I thought this was a April fools joke, not when I got home. The headlight housing is completely broken and there was a bunch of small parts that I can't figure out where they came from.

Ouch!
As bad as it looks, they will be able to put it back together again. Glad you wife is OK.
I am still worried that when I touch the "Park" button, it will not go into park and hit the front wall of my garage or something else. I am still grabbing for the shifter on the console that is no longer there.
Sorry for your loss.

I don't make a habit of shutting my ML off in drive, and I don't think any car I have ever had shifted into park when shut off in drive.

First thought in mind but then again it's cheaper to fix the car lol
Thanks, I had to drive it to the mb collision center, so zip ties were the way to go.
Exactly what I said, couldn't believe it that she put it in gear and destroyed the car & garage! The worst part is my insurance isn't covering the garage.!!!

In a car that has a backup camera and parking sensors how hard can it be.? But as long as they are okay, that's all that really matters. What kind of car was she driving?

My insurance company authorized $2,600 for repairs! The adjuster tried to persuade me to take it to there local shop for repairs! I literally LOL @ him! The estimate without even opening it up to see what else needed repairing from the collision center is $5500! I wonder how much the final bill will be. On my E350 that was hit by lady just a couple months ago was repaid by them first estimate was $1500 and they charged the ladies insurance $3600
These are the pictures before I put it back together.

FYI.... My 2010 ML shifts to park as soon as I shut it down still in drive, before I even touch a door. I don't make a habit of doing this because it sounds rough when shutting down like that. And as mentioned it also shifts to park if a door is opened while engine is running in drive. Haven't checked the 2014 yet

I own a Mercedes-Benz ELITE Certified Collision Center, there are probably 10 of us in the USA, we are certified by MB to preform structural aluminum repairs were other shops, even MB Certified shops cannot. I say that so you'll know that I know what I am talking about. The insurance company is there to work for you, not for you to be scared by or intimidated by like they like to act; and if you go to a Certified shop they'll make sure the vehicle is repaired per MB standards, not insurance standards.
In reference to your ML it isnt as bad as it looks, looks all cosmetic from the picture. The adjuster will ALWAYS try to scare you into taking it to their shop because they have some control over what is actually done and that shop gives the INS company concessions on parts and labor; thats why we are only DRP for Chubb. I dont know how close you are but there is an ELITE Certified Shop called Tyson's Corner Collision Center in VA, I think its near DC.
I tell everyone, nomatter who repairs the vehicle take it to a Mercedes-Benz Certified Collision Center and to be sure they're actually Certified go to mbusa.com, click the Owners box, under Service & Care, click Certified Collision Centers, put in your ZIP CODE at the top were it says Find a Collision Center. If the shop telling you their MB Certified isnt on their they are NOT Certified. Having a non-Certified shop fix your vehicle can void your Warranty so why take the chance.

I don't know exactly how carfax or autocheck get the info but I have had cars that were in small and significant accidents that were reported to the DMV and went through insurance but none of them appeared on carfax. You might luck out.

Everything will be replaced on the driver side. I wonder what the bill will add up to..

It takes time sometimes, a good way to estimate the length of repair is the number of total hours divided by 3-5; that'll give you a good range of how many business days it'll take to fix. That's an insurance guideline, 5hrs per day on a car is HIGH but we avg. about that. Also they may be waiting on parts, there are a lot if factors but bottom line is it'll be fixed per Mercedes-Benz guidelines & you'll still have a Warranty bc if a non certified shop fixes your car MB can void your remaining factory warranty; I've seen it happen. So just give them the time and you'll get your car back and it'll be right. That's what matters. I'm glad you went there though they have a great reputation which is why they were invited to be Elite Certified. Let's see some after shots when you get it back.

My 2009 ML only shifted to park when the door was opened AFTER the motor was shut off.
I once opened the door without stopping the motor, and the car began to drive off.
With the 2013 I believe is the same, but I assure you I NEVER get out unless definitely in Park!
