Garage door requires car power?
Just took delivery of my 2014 ML350. Often I will get to my car and press the Homelink auto garage door opener in my car to open the garage door prior to starting my car. It appears that this will not work with the ML350 without the car first being turned on. Is that correct? Any way to override this so it works without car power?

I will try mine this evening but I am pretty sure my garage door opener works without the ignition be on. I am not finding the transmiter to be very strong as I have to be right at my garage door to open it when coming home, my Lexus used to open the same door from the street.

My 2006 e320 only works with the key on. At times I come into the garage and want to lower the door while I am getting out of the car, but the "remote" will only work with the power on. It will not even wait one minute while the CANBUS system shuts down the electrical system after removing the key.

If the garage door button worked with the power off it would be a security risk. A thief could break the car window while it is parked outdoors and open the garage door, gaining access to your home. Requiring the key insures that only authorized users can open or close the garage door. They key must be in either the accessory or run position for the opener to operate.

Yep went home at lunch and you can turn the motor off and the garage door opener will still work until you open the car door, then is stops. I guess there are good reasons for this as mentioned, above.
