Doing Service 'B' & have a couple of questions

This is for a 2012 ML350 Bluetec

1) One of the steps is to clean the water deflector. What water deflector?
2) I'm supposed to drain the fuel filter. I haven't been under the vehicle yet... but I assume that is how you reach it. Any clues where exactly it is? Before I start, do I need to buy any plugs to reseal it when I've finished draining it?

Thanks in advance

Confirm with an online parts diagram but I think it's the plastic part at the bottom of the windshield. As for the fuel filter, IIRC, on my 350 BTC it was actually in the engine bay.

Thanks for your reply - the only water deflector I can find through google is the inner waterproofing inside each door panel. Maybe they're asking it to be inspected in case the car had been repaired? Seems like an unusual check. The part on the windshield makes more sense.

I'll take a look for the filter again in the engine. I always thought diesels would be less complicated... but there's a lot of ancillary equipment there. It must be under some stuff.

on GLC300 #2, a 2022 CPO purchased b/c I really dislike the X254's UI (GL350 before those)
You might find it helpful to reference sites like these:
https://www.parts.com/index.cfm?fuse...20Liter-DIESEL
Parts.com has some illustration with pricing on OEM Mercedes parts.
There are others and also dealers who discount parts with same info online. Next post....

Try
Partsbase.org
Official parts catalog for MB and others available
Here is water deflector on GL, you may confirm ML but it's as noted by other post here.

Useful for how to find a part and get to it on your car, short of a manual.

This picture shows what is called a water baffle, I believe that is what they are talking about.

It is number 10 in this picture.

Thanks all.

I replaced the dust filter (#220 in the diagram), so I'll open it up again and take another look. I did ask the MB parts person, and they thought it might be the rubber seals on the bottom of each of the doors. It's a mystery, but I'm not too worried because everything looks fine on the vehicle

'Water Deflector' Might it be the 2 drain tubes & channel for the sunroof? I know I had to do that on my GLK...
