We should have a list of these dealers where you get screwed.
I got screwed at Newmarket MB in Toronto, to start it off

I was 100% entitled to return my ML for another after 1 day as per what the Certified Used car Bull stated. They would not and MB corporate did nothing to help me because of a medical issue with the car (smoker's car that was masked ) I even offered a breathing specialist's letter stating the dangers of me keeping this car.
Peterbough MB did everything to find me the same year and model that they would trade me even.
I ended buying a new ML from them and lost $9000 in value for a month of MB corporate pissing me around with the one a bought from Newmarket MB a corporate store.
It should be a chucky Cheese outlet.
These is my 7th Benz by the way, I have 3 in the driveway as we speak

Wow that is awful i'm sorry to hear. I'm surprised corporate did nothing as one of my friends bought a 2015 ML it stopped on the road numerous times they received a full refund after going to corporate. Originally Posted by racer12

BUTTTTTTT they did have that initial struggle at first it took numerous calls to corporate to get something done. My only suggestion would be to keep calling its a pain my friends had to do it and I also had to call numerous times to get the proper service I feel like if you don't hassle them (depending on who you speak to) they won't care.
I got lucky on my third try and spoke to a great gentleman who sent an email to the dealer and called them personally and sent me the proper service procedures. As soon as he did i was in for an appointment to get the proper service free of charge.
In my opinion is talking to a dog with a note in his mouth is as good as calling MB head office. They are ALL empty chairs there.
If I could have got a diesel SUV from anyone other car company I would have not bought another MB
Thankfully there are GREAT dealerships like Peterbough MB.
That POS I bought from Newmarket had a $1600 issue with the blind spot alert, I am guessing they knew that and that is why they did not want the SUV back .The issue showed up the 2nd day and they would not fix it under dealership warranty. It had 80001 kms on it when I picked it up, but stated 79100 or so on the add on the internet.
Peterbough MB has one of the top 4 service managers in CANADA. She went to MB head office service division and they fix the SUV under goodwill for free when it had 4000 klms over 80,000.
Why didn't the other dealer act this way.She is one of the best servive managers I have ever met. She really knows her cars.
I contacted my lawyer to sue the sales manager personally for my $9000 loss ,but he said it would not work.
So I tell my story on the forums to try to alert others before they get screwed at NEWMARKET MB.
My hope is that everyone passes on my story and helps others

The dealership ownership seems to dictate the experience. Even my local dealer that became an Auto Nation store a year ago is a shell of its former self. All but one employee I like has left from management to my service adviser. If I want bad service I might as well buy a LR.

While I can't comment on the Newmarket dealership, the fact that someone from the Peterborough one got your car fixed by definition means that the problem was not with MB Corporate - who has to approve all such repairs and in the end fixed it as a goodwill gesture - but the specific dealership and/or service advisor at the first dealership. MB Corporate is actually quite responsible and receptive to cutomer issues and complaints.
And, with regard to your comment that if you had a choice you would not have bought another MB, allow me to point out that diesel VWs and Audis are relatively inexpensive at this time...
Was someone actually holding a gun to your head and forced you to hand over your money to Mercedes or are you just being a pi$$y little drama queen?
Last but certianly not least, any half-decent car detailer ought to be able to COMPLETELY and PERMANENTLY get rid of any smoke odours with a good detailing. Yes, it involves shampooing the carpets and roof liner among other things, and I bet you could even get the the HEPA cabin air filter repalced fro free if you asked politely, but it is far from a reason to return the car. And, if your issue with residual cigarette smoke is so severe (like a peanut allergy) that it was a deal breaker, you were unable to detect it in the first six days yet the issue was something with a blind spot assist? Sorry, but somethign doesn't add up in your story. I can likely get the Newmarket dealership involved and have them give us their version of events if you'd like, just for posterity's sake.
Next time vote with your wallet and buy another make. Seriously. You buy someone else's used and discarded goods, have buyer's remorse and are getting mad that you and you alone made a bad decision?
P.S. And, what you're doing on the forums is called slander. MB's lawyers are quite sensitive to it and have a LOT more money than your three MBs on your driveway would net you if you had to defend yourself in court. Grow up.

You have your opinion ,I have the truth. Think what you want.
I spent $500 at a MB dealer to clean and air out this SUV ,it came back the first hot day
I did not want a VW or Audi.
A certified MB should have been a safe buy, don't you think?

Safe buy? Actually, it's quite the opposite (and this is not an opinion - it's a fact, so I am afraid you're the one deluding yourself here if you think otherwise). It is hugely profitable for MB and the other high-end brands to sell off-lease used cars, but the people that keep buying them are getting shafted in the long run. The cars are no longer built to the same standards or using the same materials that they were some 15 years ago - they are now specifically made to fall apart after a certain period of time so that the company gets to make and sell new ones. It's called planned obsolescence, and MB is right up there near the top. They get to resell the same car twice (which - if leased - was likely driven with the minimum of care to boot), and the car was designed to only last six or seven years from the initial in-service date, after which time it will need major and expensive repairs. It's now the norm with all of the luxury brands.
And, the MB dealers know nothing about detailing and they are certainly not going to spend $700 out of pocket to have it properly cleaned and detailed by a third-party specialist. While you paid $500, they use their in-house guys working in their basement for minimum wage to wash the floor mats and spray some Fabreeze. Years of smoke does not air out - it gets absorbed into various materials and stains things permanently, so it requires someone who knows what they are doing. If you're in the GTA (and I gather you are as you're talking about Newmarket), I know of at least three detailers that will do a great job. It would take them two days to do the job properly and would probably cost you at least $700, but the car would be cleaner and shinier than when it left the showroom (the first time, not when it was resold if you got it used).
I'm not looking for an argument - I'm rather stating the facts. It's not what used car buyers want to hear, but I am afraid it's the truth. As for the rest, I can't comment on your dealership experience - I am sure it was bad - but the particular issue(s) you had were likely 99.9% the fault of the dealership, not MB corporate. MB HO will do anythign to sell you a used car, and will make sure that you're happy with it for as long as it is within the the warranty period.

The Newmarket dealership is a corporate store..
The Peterbough dealer has all the right equipment to do the job.It spent 3 days with and ozsonator in it, all filters changed, all surfaces washed and treated.
I was a tradesman for 50 years and my lungs are not good.
My wife can not wear perfume or anything with a scent etc.The Newmarket dealer did not believe me that it was dangerous to me. MY wind pipe closes up to protect my lungs. It is hard to breathe
My breathing specialist / surgeon was willing to give them a letter stating this.
I am a big boy if I make a bad choice I suck it up and move on.This was a very costly experience.
MB customer service did not do anything to help.( 3 different people there}I could not get above this department.
They had the same ML same equipment, miles etc at another store ,I would have paid to change this car covering their reasonable costs. It was only 2 days since the purchase. If I returned this SUV I would have been 100k over the miles they allowed .I had no choice but to drive it on the Sunday that put me over the 500k.I live 180k from the dealership.
They said that there was no warranty at all on this SUV from them. At a GM store or a small independent store you get at least 30 days.
I bought my son a pick up tow vehicle and it was used and we got 30 days warranty.
I could not , nor could other people in the industry believe the treatment from them.
I only wanted to be able to drive the $47,000 SUV I bought in good faith. Read the statement of what a CERTFIED MB used car is.I looked at one that was full of scratches there which is a no no re the certified statement .The saleman agreed with me. He was great by the way, but this was above his pay grade.
I was told that sales and service at MB head office is not the same .
All this is true , and I can prove it .

I believe you 100% and I completely understand and sympathize with your predicament. My original remark was that the issue was likely with the Newmarket dealership and not MB corporate, but if I understand you correctly you are saying that you DID contact MB head office and they refused to honor their CPO terms (including your right to return the vehicle within 7 days)? If the car was sold as a CPO vehicle and through a corporate store, the warranty and terms are set by MB. Unless it was misrepresented by a dishonest salesperson as a CPO when in fact it wasn't (which is what this is starting to look like), I honestly can't see MB doing this. Furthermore, if the Peterborough dealership managed to resolve - or at least address - the issue with the first car at their cost, they had to get the same approval from HO that the Newmarket one would have, which again implies that the Newmarket dealership didn't do what they were supposed to. Or - are you saying that the Peterborough dealership at least tried to get the car clean and serivced, but despite their efforts they still couldn't succeed and that is the reason why you ended up getting the new one?
And, you are absolutely right that the service at the Toronto Midtown dealership (that shares the same building as MB HO) is better than the others. Seeing as they are next to HO and the corporate bigwigs are always walking through, at Midtown they run a very tight ship indeed. I have always serviced all my MBs there (I've also had a number of MBs and currently have three) and have always been happy with the service (actually, even there only the shop foreman and one other tech are allowed to work on my cars, but that's a different story and certainly not the norm).
I know a few people at MB HO, so if you wish, you can PM me the names of the people you spoke to and I can ask someone to look into the situation, although I can't make any promises. As I said, it is unlike MB to do what you're describing, and if you were sold a car under false pretenses (as a CPO if it wasn't), I am sure they would want to know what transpired. I suspect that the person you were dealing with at the Newmarket store decided to pull a fast one (February is a VERY slow month for them and the sales people work 100% on commission, so it is not unthinkable that some of them would behave unethically).

I generally think they are all lousy. The only really great one I found was at Ray Catena in NJ. The senior sales guy there is excellent (Rob). I am buying my second car from him now. He's the man.
Because I live in manhattan ny, it's a pain to buy from them being 1 hour away. So when I went to buy a GLE63 I tried to at Manhattan benz.
But the sales guy there was the LEAST educated person I met. Ok, I can do my own research, I don't need the most educated sales guy. I know what I am buying.
But when I asked about a few options, the guy totally lied about what they are. He had NO clue what the performance exhaust option was. he said "for $700 bucks, all it is, is that they paint the exhaust black". If you dont know fess up.
I might buy from them in the future for convenience but not from this guy. If buying a Benz in manhattan, PM me and I will tell you who to avoid. I don't want to put anyone on blast publicly though because maybe he had an off month.

racer12 - I just found out that the Newmarket dealership is NO LONGER A MB CORPORATE STORE - it was sold to a private party late last year. That might certainly explain what you went through.
It was a corporate store in September when I bought there. The salesman told me that the "corporate experience" is much better than a franchise one
Peterbough MB tried to but the SUV from the for me , and they would not sell to them.
The owner of Peterbough MB , said it was a certified used car so I could not go wrong In his opinion, so with his blessing and understanding I would service it at his store I went ahead .
When I had all the problems. he and Francis the service manager did everything they could to help me.
This SUV had black primer showing behind the wheels. from road rash that I did not notice at time of delivery.MB got them to fix that after a lot of arm twisting.
Newmarket also never returned a lot of my calls. They said that head office was not doing anything for me as it was between only between us.
Head office had no say in this matter.
At one point I was going to take this ML and park it on the lawn at head office and demand to see a big shot there.
It worked for my dad and Ford in Oakville in 1966, he got the car fixed right away by doing this after being screwed around by Thorncrest Ford In Etobicoke. It was a rear brake locking up issue.
Newmarket had a black with tan ML that was a certified one also. When I saw the scratches and condition of it , I was able to quote chapter and verse about the standards of a certified car as I was educated by the other dealer. The salesman agreed with me and it disappeared from the web site and the dealership. It was not there when I picked mine up , only to come back all repainted later
Also 2 companies tried to get the smoke smell out.
I bought a MB corporate head office executive driven 2014 ML with 13k on it and could not be happier. but it cost me a lot of money
I know in my heart that MB is a good company, only they completely dropped the ball on this situation.
I was in business for over 40 years and I bent over backwards for my customers and staff
I just wanted some of the same from Newmarket
I forgot , when I checked the service records after I took delivery They reconditioned the car, for sale , tires , brakes clean up saftied , drive clean etc the Suv had 2000 plus klms more on it from the reconditioing Did someone else buy it and take it back or was that one hell of a test drive. The salesman after I got it had no idea what happened to get the miles on it.
Very strange stuff went on here.
M B head office needs to ask questions, because I lost $9000 in value when I had to get rid of it.

M B head office needs to ask questions, because I lost $9000 in value when I had to get rid of it.

I wonder if you would have better success if you had kept the vehicle? I am sure you can work something out, I just think no longer having the vehicle will make that tougher.
I could NOT drive it because of the smoke residue.I drove it to Toronto and 1/2 way I was going to park it and call my wife to come get me
I stopped at a Hyundai dealer and left it there and took a new Santa Fe home with the intensions of buying it.They noticed a strange smell also in it.
I did not like the way the wing blew it all over the road.
I go south for 6 months and have 2 big dogs, so I needed an diesel SUV
I do not think MB will do anything for me, they could give me a few months payments on the new one as I do not use my money to buy cars
This could be a great opportunity for MB to step up and do something and get good press like they should.

MBWorld Fanatic!
You bought a used car! There is no guarantee that no one smoked in it nor is there a guarantee that it has not seen the insides of a body shop. You had a choice when you bought the car. Just because it is Certified pre own gives you a warranty, not a return unless that was part of the agreement when you bought it. If you have to have to have a diesel Benz that is guaranteed to not have been smoked in or close to perfect, buy a new one.
Pre owned Mercedes standards are higher in Canada it seems..MB gives you a 5 day 300 mile full return policy . There were no new ML Bluetek trucks around with a hitch and the new GLE that replaces the ML has no diesel yet in Canada. That was my 2nd certified MB out of 3 and the other 2 were perfect. MB Canada claims they are showroom quality A Dealer who get a smoker's car in a trade in usually wholesale them. Also it is a $500 cleaning fine if you smoke in a courtesy loaner.
