considering buying 2014 ML350 bluetec

Considering buying a 2014 ML350 Bluetec with lower mileage (around 30,000km). How is the reliability of the diesel engine? I read some older threads from 2012 models where some people were experiencing oil leaks, oil cooler issues and injector issues.

Is this something I should expect? or was it resolved in 2014 model years? Anything else I should watch out for? It is certified pre-owned so I would have a few years warranty left on major components (although still need to read the small print of what that includes).

Any advice appreciated. Currently have a 2010 GLK and no major issues. Hoping for similar reliability with the ML. never had a diesel engine before.

let me know
Thanks!!

The ML 350 Blueteck has the same engine as the Sprinters and if you do the oil changes with MB oil they have been know to go 1,000,000 kilos. The new generation has better reports than the 2012 models. When you buy this asked the dealer for garage pricing for parts in the deal. It makes an oil change about $170 CDN. It needs oil and filter every 15 k which sounds costly . but my cousin pays $90 every 6 K for a Hyundai for synthetic oil.Other than that you will love the ML , it is far nicer to drive than the GLK as I had 2 before the ML. Are you getting air ride? Also there are many sets of weathertech mats on kijji for these Suv,s if your has black interior. At 30k it is just broken in. I drove from Toronto to Rotonda Fla for $132 in fuel 2560 kilos or 1648 miles. .Also they are safe, as I hit a deer at 80 miles an hour and the truck held up remarkably well no airbags went off , just lots of broken parts $17000 worth.

I ownwd a 2012 ML 350 Bluetec which I traded at 42,000 miles with no problems. I trader for the 2014 ML 350 Bluetec. I just completed my 50,000 service & have had no problems. I also just replaced my Continual tires after 52,000 miles. I go back & forth to Florida from NY, my highway milage is 33mpg adverage at 68mph adverage. I run my tires at 40psi front & 42 psi rear. I pulled my wifes mercedes E350 back on a u-haul & adveraged 18.6 mpg. Love this model.

I recently purchased a 2014 BT with 40k. I've owned several diesels going back to the early 80's with this being my first Mercedes. One selling point for me is Mercedes long history of producing diesels and the use of these engines across a variety of cars and trucks they produce. That means access to parts and service.

I also agree changing the oil at 5k intervals is cheap insurance. I can do this myself so it takes some of the sting out of the cost. In general, diesel maintenance will cost more than a normal engine. So far I've been on one long trip and averaged 30mpg. The ride, comfort and torque are great. There is no engine clatter in the vehicle and very little outside.

You're looking at a later model, that engine and transmission in that year have been around for quite some time and similair in reliability to other cars in that class. I'd always run the vin by the service department and see what has/has not been done depending on milage. extended warranty someones can be had for a steal, i purchased it with mine for $1600, something to consider.

To Cloudbuster:
Im getting very close to 50K in my ML350BT, end of warranty )
Can you tell what you have done in 50K service and how much did you pay?
Did you do all what in maintenance book under required section?

Im thinking just to do the oil change. I don't see anything in the book I think I should do.

Mine has been bulletproof. I needed something that could tow the race car and I traded in the diesel GLK I had before it. They are no longer bringing the diesels to NA (courtesy of VW), so if you can find one that you like I'd pick it up (there are plenty that are coming off leases... see if you can get one with a full service history from the dealer if it's a local car). Do NOT skimp on service, use quality synthetic oil and change it twice as often as recommended, and it should give you many trouble-free years of service.

2014 ML 350 Bluetec
Bluetec

I am shopping for a CPO 2014 bluetec myself.

We currently own a 08 GL320CDI, and a 09 E320 bluetec. Both have had the oil coolers leak and then take out the actuator underneath it. Expensive. The mechanic told me the part number has changed since 2009 indicating MB knew there was a problem and corrected it. I do not know if the new part is any better.

That being said, they are great cars, and I want to get a new one.

All of the 2015's I have seen are the 250BT (4cyl). Are there any 350BT's out there?
