ML350 on 17" rims

So the tire shop told me 17" rims will fit and I just had a blank stare on the guy which I dealt before and "I said you sure?" I told him the brakes a quiet big and the 20" only have an 1" to spare before hitting the 20" AMG rims. He said the computer says so so I told him okay order it in but if does not fit it won't be my fault. I ordered a these rims:

tires are toyo observe g3-ice 245/65/17
So.....has anyone of you guys used 17" on the ML before? I think it won't fit but what do I know.

However, there will be a significant gap in the wheel wells/arches.

I expect that the tires on the 17 will have a higher side wall to them than the 20's.
I am looking for snow tires with rims also.
Was on the Mercedes website and quotes CAD$3,855.00 for 19" OEM rims with Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow.

I wanted 18" because I was looking for a higher sidewall to enable me to go over medians in cause the roads were blocked by stalled cars and buses (I have the off road package so I can raise the car by 3"). Was told that 19" is what I should go with.
I have a ML550 so maybe the brakes are bigger????

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
I have used Kaltire for years and I trust them.
With taxes they were 1/2 of the OEM Mercedes tires and wheels combo.
Not sure why I bought them now as "snowmegeddon" is over till the next winter.
I guarantee that Vancouver will not get any more snow now that I just purchased the snow tires.

It's like that with snow. I Pay a guy to plow the driveway. I'm happy when he takes my money and hardly ever has to come push during the season such as this year. That's good value, I believe!

I understand the concern about the price difference.
If I were you, I'd invest in a good set of 19" winter tires. They will last you several years if you remove them promptly at the end of season. Congratulations on the new arrival.
anyone have any idea if 18" rims will work on the ML350 with amg/sport package?

I've got a 2017 C300 at my disposal that has 18" Mercedes rims on it, weather permitting this weekend I will try to fit the 18" rim on the ML350 front wheel, hopefully it fits and there is a few mm/cm of space to spare.
I'll report back once I've tested.
The price difference is huge between 19 and 18 tires, I was looking at the Hakkapeliitta R2 or R3 SUV tires from Kal Tire, and it's almost $100 difference between 19 and 18 inch.

I managed to try it out today, although I forgot to also test it on the back wheel, my assumption though is that the back ML350 brakes and everything is smaller, it did look like they had more clearance so if it worked on the front it should be fine on the back.
I was able to successfully put an 8.5x18 rim from a c300 onto a Canadian 2014 ML350 BlueTec 4matic with a sport package that has 20" stock rims, I attempted it on the front wheel. The rim fit fine and I was able to rotate it a bit with no resistance or issues, as much as the transmission in park would let me. I took some photos to show the clearances, there isn't much room and it looks like there is more or less clearance depending on the angle of the photo, but there is room between the brake caliper and the rim. I should've shot the photo with a tape measure in there. I feel pretty confident now that an 18" rim will fit, I highly doubt a 17" would though. Also my lug nuts were too long for the c300 rim, so I'm guessing depending on the rims I get I may have to also buy a new set of lug nuts to go with them. I used the C300 lug nuts to hold the rim on. Of course, as mentioned above when shopping around for rims I will ensure to find rims with the appropriate load rating to ensure they are fit for the heavier vehicle, but looking around at a few rims on https://www.canadawheels.ca it looks like they are more than suitable for the SUV. The cheapest 18" on there for winter has a load index of 1797, while the door sticker in the ML states GAWR for the rear is 1650, and from everything I read you actually take the GAWR and divide it by 2 to get the rim load index you need, as the GAWR is for the whole axle which will be 2 wheels taking that weight. 1797 is good enough for the whole axle, let alone half of that which would be required for 1 rim. I think I've done my research right but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Hopefully, this helps somebody out and they won't have to go through the hassle I did to swap rims and test. Now the hunt begins for 18" rims and possibly lug nuts/lock nuts for them.
