NoX Sensor P2201
Can i replace this myself at the cost of $450? I hear they should be replaced in pairs and new sensors are available and need to be learned. Anyone have any info on this.
2013 ML350 Bluetec 52k miles
If i have to learn new sensors i want to do it myself what tool can i purchase to learn them to the car?
This seems like a common problem so i am preparing for the future, invest in the tool vs pay for labor.

Finally, I am looking for one aftermarket scanner for detecting problems like this …

I got same problem on almost same mileage. Could you please share your experience about resolving this issue ? Did you change both Nox or just one (I think this code is for front Nox).

-Purchased a cloned MB software kit, laptop and interface cables from Aliexpress- $600
-Purchased a new MB own NoX sensor from an online retailer, $375
There is only 1 sensor on a 2013 ML350 BT, not two. The software shows two when you bring it up, there def is only 1. I replaced and recalibrated the software to new sensor. Also activated a forced regen on the DPF. 15k miles so far no issue on that. Glad I bought the software because the left got film MAF sensor went bad last year and I could pinpoint the issue and was able to replace and relearn that sensor to. Another $950 for complete intake tube and sensors, only way it’s sold.
Bottom line, but the cloned software you will need it down the road. Parts are expensive and sold in modular fashion, terrible for the consumer, all sensors need to be recalibrated to the car when changed.

Hi, Hailers2, I also have ML350 Bluetec 2014. Are these two NOX sensors easy to access and changed by DIY? My scanner show B1S2 and B1S3 failed, Is there a B1S1? Also following some of the previous posts, a cloned software is necessary?

I had both replaced at Park Place Motors in Ft Worth. I did look at a Youtube video of a guy replacing them and it didn't look al that difficult.
Actually I had but one code showing. Once at the dealers I was told, if memory serves, that they needed to replace both sensors at the same time. So I let them replace both. The car has not had this problem as of the latest milage of 110,000 miles. The problem with NOX showed up at approx 77K miles. I have four cars, at least two to many, and don't use the ML as much as I did in the first two years. Everytime I get a bill from the insurance company I realise I have too many cars.
But just like owning an all electric car, you need to have another car for road trips in a timely manner ('14 CL550), another for just sitting pretty and making you smile, another for just around town with good hp and a joy to drive (SL550, was previously a XK Jaguar). Another with a diesel engine and large fuel tank and awd so you can surf fish on North Padre Island without getting stuck in the sand (ML350). i've got two road trip cars and one has to go this year (XJL and the CL550).
I do approx 50k a year since 2012 just driving around seeming the things I should have seen when younger.
Sorry about not having more info. I WAS a bit disabled when my NOX went bad and couldn't get under the ML to do the work myself. Not disabled now. I'll see if I can find that video on Youtube, in the next day or so. Memory tells me the rear one was on top of the exaust piping. I don't remember the guy in the video having to drop the exaust system to do the job, if that helps.
I forget the codes number I had with my scanner. I seem to have written a post on this site at the time. It would have the code that came up.
UPDATE: The thread/post I wrote on is this one :https://mbworld.org/forums/m-class-w...uetec-gas.html I don't think your code matches the one I had??????? For NOX.

Look at this video :
I know it's a 2011 MLBluetec but I'd expect the locations to be similar on the '14 Bluetec. I remember looking at this video and considered it do'able by me if I had not had a physical problem at the time. I'm assuming the locations are similar. There's also a video on Youtube with a guy doint the change to a Sprinter van with the same engine as we have. Lots of assuming here by me. I must have had a good year in the stk mkt for me to spend two grand having Park Place do the job. Easy come easy go.

My 2013 ML Blutec had the rear sensor fail acorrding to the code. After putting the car on my lift and looking at the parts breakdown I quickly realized there is only 1. Purchased part online and a cloned MB star laptop and DAS from aliexpress. I don’t believe you can change this sensor on the car without relearning the upper and lower bands, very few sensors you can change without a relearn. Never tried it without a relearn so I can’t verify for sure.
$390 sensor
$850 toughbook and STAR diagnostics.

Just for clarification there is only 1 NoX sensor on a 2013. Most likely this is true for all w166 diesels. The software and code will come up separate for front and rear but I can assure you there is only 1 physical NoX sensor on a 2013.
