Advice on driver door wood trim replacement 13 ml550
i am new to the forum, and a new owner of a low mile 2013 ML550. Although I have no idea how this happened, the driver side wood trim was cracked, however the seller bought a new replacement. I will be installing this with the help of a neighbor who is a very proficient mechanic. Has anyone done this job, and if so do you have any advice or recommendations to make the job easier? My neighbor said there is a special removal tool to make the job easier but I have never attempted anything like this so it is a bit intimidating. Thanks in advance.

I just did this yesterday on my ML63 and it is not a bad job. I changed over from stock burl to the flat finish wood. You do need a set a trim removal tools so that you don’t butcher your door panels. There are YouTube videos for taking off both front and back door panels. The rears have two t30 bolts each and the fronts, just one. The wood trim is held on by t10’s, screwed from the inside of the panel. Oddly enough, the harness plugs are color coded, so you really can’t go wrong.

I was searching and searching for months.
I have something rattling inside want to take it off and look.

2013 ML 550
Ok, now I have an even bigger problem. I just received the new part yesterday from the previous owner, part number 166-720-23-22. The trim on my car is 731 burl walnut. The problem is, the new trip is brown in color, whereas my other wood trim is more reddish in color. They don’t match at all. I called the dealership where the part was ordered and they said it was the right part, and that I had an “older” car, my trim had probably faded, which is not true. Has anyone else run across this problem?

Did you replace your wood trim with Brown Ash? If so where did you find it ? Are you also replacing the console cover. I want to replace mine with the Brown Ash.

So I spoke with the local Mercedes parts manager on Saturday, and he is going to order several of the same part numbers to see if there are any color variations. Should be interesting.
