Wow! That is crazy! I had this issue but for me it was the cover that went over the cargo area. Took it out and put it back in. No issues. Hope your issue gets fixed. In the video I could not hear it. Are you 100% sure it comes from inside the car?

The seal runs around the opening, not on the hatch.

It just pulls off.

When refitting it I give it a squeeze to make it fit tighter then just push it on.

This has the rubber that must be eased over the interior trim on it.

Removed the top of my ML shock and found the ML's don't have a rubber isolator its metal on metal with a tiny o-ring between the plate and body. I added a 1/4 inch crushproof rubber washer, no change, I took a video after I added the washers below. I also removed all the covers from underneath the car, gas tank skid, DPF skid, wheel liners. Im at a loss, only reason I still believe its the shock is the noise is so sensitive to any bump (and there wasn't much left on the car to rattle), my tires had been at 28PSI and I aired up to 45PSI for my trip home and this made the noise much more noticeable .... Anyone have any suggestions??

Hey there, I have a 2016 W166 now called the GLE350. I have noticed this noise for the past year and it has been driving me crazy. I can almost guarantee you the rattling is coming from this panel where the rear seat belt goes into. I have not removed it for fear of damaging the panel. But if you would like to try, I assure you the noise of coming from this damn area! You can knock / tap on the panel and hear the rattle. It may be coming from both sides as well. I hear it rattle whenever I go over bumps on the road. Very disappointing quality for a luxury brand.

Never solved a similar issue with my 2019 E450 wagon - traded it out of sheer frustration. I agree with Tomhui above - I always thought it was up in that area around the top anchor of the rear seatbelt.

I ran a video both under the car and inside, can't replicate the sound under the car. Inside the Go-pro slightly picks up the sound, best way I can describe is a rattling plastic canister? Its hard to pick up the sound in the video it almost just sounds like road noise, the best example is 1:02-1:10 in the video. Any ideas??

Hey, no I never did solve this. Just learned to live with it. I sold the car a few years ago. I’m almost wondering looking back if it was drive shaft related. I disconnected seat belts, rear shocks, everything possible to isolate the noise and never found it.

Strange.. I also has new shock absorbers, no differense. I suspected the main sway bar bushings (rear). Today i disconected to sway bar links, and drove a trip whith the main sway bar free from car... But no difference. So its not them eigther. This is driving me nuts.
