2014 ML550 California Vehicle Emissions Control Sticker

I recently bought a 2014 ML550 with low miles, great condition, clean carfax and title (with regular services every ~10k mi), and when we were getting it smogged, the tech said the hood emissions sticker "Group" number did not match the engine of the car. The sticker shows embxt03.5u2a (3.5L engine) but really the car is packing a 4.7L. I mean, that's not normal right? It should be EMBXT05.5U2A according to https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/EPAG...l_alpha_14.pdf

Looking at the carfax, it was originally sold in the East Coat (NJ) and serviced regularly at the Contemporary Motor Cars MB of NJ, had an "A/C and heating system checked. Vehicle washed/detailed" in Palm Beach FL, then serviced again in NJ, and then another "A/C and heating system checked" at the same place in FL. Wonder what happened? But the guy I bought it from in CA said that he bought it CPO from a local MB authorized dealer, so I'm sure it's actually ok.

sooo....I guess look for the two turbos that should be there on a 550.....
And 8 cylinders vs 6

I mean if you have a 3.5 v6 you would notice the power difference. Probably in correct sticker was placed somewhere.

I'm hoping you didn't get hosed.

Lol yes it has all the cylinders and feels like a V8 (coming from a w163 V8). I went to the MB dealer and they did a quick check and said it should be nothing to worry about; probably a little fender bender or some weather damage since it was in the East Coast where it snows. And they said, since it was CPO, it's passed MB inspection.

I don't think you can have a CPO vehicle that has been in an accident.

Be careful on the fender bender. The dealer can sell a CPO car that has been involved in minor accidents ( i confirmed this with the dealer , they can do it as long as there is no major damage ie frame damage) the problem is it will show up on the CARFAX report and make your car worth less money. I am working an issue like this now. I purchased a 2015 ML 350 with 9,500 miles in Feb 2016 and now looking at trading it in and found out it had an accident report on CARFAX and according to CARFAX this reduces the value of my car by 8000. Im still trying to get to the bottom of this. The accident is recorded after I owned the car so I know it did not happen so I checking to find out if the dealer knew about it or its a CARFAX error.

Good point. Before I got the car, the carfax was clean. I'll keep an eye out on it. By any chance, do you have access to a dealer carfax account to run the vin? 4JGDA7DB0EA292071
