I have ambient light trim pieces from a '17 GLE 450 -- only have 3 color

The dealer order guide for the '19 GLE only has the 876 package (3 color)

Every GLE wood trim piece I've seen on eBay only has the 3 color emitter

 

but again, the menu only exists on your Chinese-retrofitted COMAND unit. You have a pre-facelift ML ('12-'15) that you retrofitted.

Again, I'm not doubting you, but in the world of Google, YouTube, Instagram, I was just asking if you knew of one other example of proof that 12 color ambient lighting was a factory option

So it's oem, great, but why not get MB LED's if it was an actual option? Surely there's a p/n for it. Again, I'm legit not trying to argue with you, I'm honestly just looking for more information and evidence of the 12 colors in any other GLE that is OEM besides your ML which was retrofitted with a GLE COMAND unit and Chinese, non-MB LED's.

An option in COMAND via a Chinese rigged OBDII plug to enable the option isn't proof.

I think you're misinterpreting morbid curiosity for infighting which is inaccurate. Chris -- I'm literally just trying to find out information, not disprove or fight you. Geez.

 

I feel like we're speaking different languages. If one were to buy an upgrade kit, say from CKM car design, for a 3 to 12 led ambient light upgrade, and they did NOT have access to Xentry, how is their COMAND system programmed? Via a rigged OBDII plug, yes?

And more importantly, what I continue going back to, why can you not show me, literally ANYWHERE on the internet, evidence of a GLE with 12 ambient light? Why can you not point to an ambient light trim piece that is OEM that has emitters for more than just the 3 colors? It wouldnt/shouldnt be the same option code, just as the HK sound system has a different option code than the burmeister system. What are the options in Xentry when you activated 3 to 12? Can you grab a screenshot?

I was reading the back and forth. WE47, if you ask me, what i would suggest is to go to benzworld (another forum board like this) and see if anyone there has done the same thing. If not then go straight to the source, I am sure they hear thousands of retrofit stories, as we see here. Are you wanting to have the same color options that chris did?

 

what did you add to this S-class? you changed the steering wheel? or did you modify the ambients?

 

What Chinese LEDs do I order that work? I can solve the rest of what I need.

nothing of the sort -- I'm on benzworld too, much more frequently, mainly for my w163. Their w166 community is smaller compared to it here.

I don't want the same color options that Chris has -- I know what that entails, and happy with keeping my setup the way it is.

What I've been trying to see supporting evidence of, out of morbid curiosity as this is a forum for learning, exchanging information, etc etc, is the existence of a '16-'19 GLE with 12 color ambient lighting. I have scoured, and scoured, and scoured the Interwebs, and I literally cannot find any other car, reference, etc, that is not the ML that Chris modified himself, and/or other aftermarket kits.

--I cannot find the LED's on the EPC
--none of the wood trim pieces from GLE's or GLS's from the above years on eBay have anything other than the 2 led / 3 color ambient lights

So what I am getting at and trying to find supporting evidence is to back up Chris's claim that it was an option that Mercedes offered, but apparently no one chose it, which I just find so hard to believe. I really don't think it existed, and the option for it in the COMAND menu, after being activated by Xentry for me isn't proof.

You said above it was an option no one ordered, but I literally can't find anyone, not even one person, who did order, or has procured a vehicle with that option.

 

From what i mentioned earlier about my neighbor, who has a GLE350W4 with P3 that it doesnt have the 12-color ambient (you would think that it would given its a P3 package) but it doesnt,
Anyways i just think if the solar ambients fit your need go that way, i mean if you really want additional colors wait and get a W167 that comes with more ambient color options inside. I dont think its a big deal,
you are doing what a lot of people in this section with the W166 wish they could do by even adding it (yes i did gripe about it as well because the ML i had was loaded and i thought at the time that the ambients were standard
as they were for the W212 2014 E facelift i had). But kudos to you.

Chris is probably the expert on retrofitting features that no cars have and by the pictures he showed he knows how to do it and well. Probably the biggest retrofitter is the user in the G-Class section who retrofitted a 2002 G550 to look like
a 2016 G63 (w the side exhausts and all) and if you see the pics it look amazing.

 

​​got it all installed -- 2 dash trim pieces, and all 4 doors. Only thing I have left is the cup holder and the 2 rear door puddle lights -- need to figure out where to tap in for the 12v constant in the door modules. But i'm happy with the results, solar looks clean and consistent with all the other interior cabinet lights. I tapped the handle lights for the door trims, so they light up when the door handles are illuminated (aka opening doors, headlights on/off)

We call it redneck oem where I'm from 😁

 

I think if MB would have made the other cabin lighting change with the trim pieces, I would have spent more time trying to make it stock, or do the COMAND upgrade, but my personal taste just thinks the cabin looks mismatched with colors other than solar.

Don't get me wrong, the "wow" factor of multiple colors is great, especially polar, but for me, it wears off and you just wish it matched at a certain point 😂

 

see -- I'm staring the decade new with Solar, I have a good 10 years to get tired of it 😁

BTW -- when you retrofitted your ML, I assume you put puddle lights in the rear doors, yes?

 

got it -- i'm just going to tap like I did with the fronts. It's block 7, pin 9 for the door contact negative, just need to find a good 12v constant to tap.

 

Nice work! does the seat memory work in the front passenger seat? because i know the ML doesnt have that? also can you show pics from the rear seats?

Here's pics from sitting in the back. The memory seat is wired, but doesn't work since my truck didnt have the option for the passenger seat. The trim pieces had the cut outs, so had to just buy a used memory seat switch and hook it into the power seat board so it would light up. No one will ever know 😁

eBay as well -- 70 bucks, and used two of the extra handle lamps from my old trim pieces. It's the same led as the ambient lighting pieces, but with just solar color led

to illuminate the lamps

 

Yea i saw, i was looking at the GLS owner photos section and the cup holder is solar no matter what, same as ML/GLE (prior to 2020)

On the GLC that i have the color of the cup holders matches the colors of the ambients

 

yeah the oem lights must have been the same as the door handles if they didn't change. I thought about making the the cupholder "polar" but said **** it, just make it all uniform.
