AdBlue problem. High consuming amount of AdBlue.
Hi all.
Recently I’ve cleaned the EGR valve, however, the CEL did not went out and the vehicle is still running in a limp mode.
5 days ago on the vehicle’s dash board comes up the AdBlue message “Check AdBlue fluid”, in one day it’s changed to “Add AdBlue fluid”.
The last time was 250 km ago with 9.5 l quantity.
I filled up the tank with AdBlue with a quantity of 9.5 l.
Today (5 days after 9.5 l of AdBlue was added I’ve got the same message “Add AdBlue fluid” and now I have 12 remaining starts.
P0404 and P0405 codes has been found.
BTW: There is a terrible smell of ammonia outside of the car.
Any help will be appreciated!
Thank you.

Hi Chassis.
I’m collecting information on this issue.
The car is not bothering me so much, however, the CEL is still on, and I’ve noticed an increase in diesel consumption and AdBlue consumption as well.
I went underneath the vehicle and I saw the following picture. Pls check the images.
BTW I’ve got the following codes: P20BA and P20E8

If you DIY, start replacing parts.
If you don't DIY, take the vehicle to a dealer or independent Mercedes repair shop.
If you are approaching the point where you are thinking of buying a new vehicle, I recommend doing that. Mercedes diesels of this era are fraught with expensive problems, unfortunately. Read this site thoroughly.

I pass the turning point already, I bought the vehicle last year and no, I’m not going to sell it.
Im thinking to block all the systems.
I have a W124 E diesel 1991, and it’s flying like a Batmobile without any DEF, EGR etc

That hose is most likely leaking. I would clean it off somehow (pressure washer at car wash?) and clean and dry everything completely. Then run the truck a few mins and shut off. Repeat 3x then get under the truck and find the leak. I'm sure it is in that hose.
Or depending on parts cost, just replace that hose and see what happens. It is not the right way (throwing parts at the problem) but I can't see any other areas it would leak from, so it's a pretty good "educated guess"

Here is the diagram for my 2013 GL350.. not sure what year you have

I believe it is part #7 that looks like it is leaking on yours.. not sure exactly.
Go to mbpartsworld.com or a similar site (MB dealer parts catalogue) and look up your GL. That part is probably the same on all ML/GL but may have changed slightly over the years.
You may be able to get the part cheaper on eBay or even sometimes from a local dealer if you ask for a discount.

Hi RiverX.
The tube is located on the passenger side. I would say almost under the right rear passenger seat under the vehicle. Close to the Adblue tank
