W166 ML63 Tow Hitch Add

Hello, I want to add a tow hitch to my ML63. I have sourced a rear bumper impact bar with trailer hitch. What are my options as far as wiring goes? Is it as simple as adding factory wiring harness into rear sam and trailer plug with coding or is there more to it?

Any write ups on how to remove W166 ML rear bumper?

I did a DIY bumper install.

The wiring is a pretty simple loom addition so the factory should be able to supply one but possibly no instructions.

I can scan and forward a copy of mine if you want, including bumper removal. Pm me.

I found the hardest part was removing the bumper cover.

The tags at eh top of the cover need to be pried off the car (without damaging them). A second set of hands would make the whole thing go so much smoother and quicker..

Any secrets or tips on removing the rear bumper cover, especially the tags at the top of the cover?

Those tags are real mother to get off.

I used a small flat blade screwdriver and gently pried each one out of the retainer.

Took a while but I did it without breaking any or scratching it.
