Replacing the filter does not solve it - - - if the filter was the problem then the odor would occur during heat mode as well.

This is more of a common problem than you may think. Many different manufacturers are experiencing the same issue. I had this odour issue in my FJ Cruiser and my Grand Cherokee SRT. I read somewhere that one solution is to program the HVAC to run for a couple of minutes on high speed after the vehicle is turned off. The idea is that running the fan will dry out the evaporator.
I purposely shut the a/c off when I'm a block from home and flick the fan on high speed. I do it on anything I drive.

Hmm do you guys ever use the Lysol treatment? I usually do this in the spring. Windows down full A/C fan and spray Lysol into the vents that suck in the air. I will have to keep my nose on full alert for this.

Yes, I bought a very low mileage 2015 ML in early 2018 and when the warm weather comes around the odor gets very bad; the smell is starting now that the weather is changing. Sometimes it gets so bad I need to put down the windows, sometimes my garage reeks of the odor. The dealer has done the treatment, I have done the treatment a number of times, and I keep a can of lysol spray on the front seat . . . . .

Not received it as of May 10th. I've a 2015 M-Class and definitely has the moldy smell when first turning on the A/C. I have to put down the windows for a couple of minutes until the smell goes away.
