ML 350 Bluetec MPG

Just went on a road trip from DFW to Amarillo, TX. The leg from DFW to Amarillo was done at 75 mph. Average MPG was 24.67 over a distance of 583 miles. The return leg was done mainly at 65 mph. Average MPG was 28.98 over a distance of 411 miles. Absolutely amazing for a vehicle that ways nearly 6000 lbs. !!!!

Agreed, I had 2014 BT for 4 years and drove 80K miles, my average for all that time (use app to track) is 23.65mpg. Sweet spot I found was
around 40mph and I got 46mpg.
As soon as I went over 70mph mpg goes down to 20-21

All is good till BT related components start failing.
I really enjoyed ML, and really missed it, and almost every day thinking why did I sold it.
It had 110K miles only on it.

Yah, depending on how my finances are in the 6 to 12 months. I am probably going to find a place here in Dallas that will do DPF, EGR, DEF deletes. I would like to keep this one as long as possible. I previously turned in my 2013 VW Touareg TDI due to the VW Dieselgate issue. Can't complain on that deal, as they paid me more than what I paid for the VW!

From a filliig station on Loop 820 in Benbrook, Texas to Hill City, KS is as far as I have gone on a tank. Should be 610 miles. Held the speed down to 75 al the way Hard to not go 75-80 mph when your being passed all the time especially once you get past Wichita, KS where everybody and their sister do 80 mph.

I was on reserve tank somewhere past Hays Ks. Why go to Hill City, KS? Answer is to get from Interstate 70 to Interstate 80 on US 283.

Had a BMW 535D which I drove several times from Ft Worth to Arapahoe, Ne, a distance of 670 miles on a single tank with some left over. 18.5 gallon tank.

Drove numerous times from Ft Worth as far as Hays KS, which is 550 miles, doing the 75-80 mph with no low fuel warning.

You can get Gee Whiz Golly good milage leaving Corpus Christi, Tx headed for Ft Worth, Tx in the summer. Usually a very strong wind all the way and that is doing a steady 80mph allllll the way. Just don't do it before a holiday or you'll get a Warning Ticket from the Hwy Patrol. Didn't see that one coming two days prior to Memorial Day this year.

Can't believe what I read on EV forums. Brag about going 300 miles at 60mph in a Tesla. Not safe driving a steady 65 mph in Texas on a interstate hwy imho. Scary to me. Just rambling while waiting on the arrival of my timing chain tensioner Tuesday via UPS.

I laugh at that as well. When we drove back from Lubbock on 287 to DFW, did not see any signs of Tesla's or any EV Charging stations. Mind you we did do that drive back at 65, as I wanted to see if it was safe at 65 and with that many small towns in the middle, indeed it was safe. The reason for keeping 65, is coming this August, our son will be driving our 2001 Subaru Forester to college, it can certainly handle 70-75, but it lacks 5th and 6th gears like many newer vehicles. So it guzzles petro at speeds in the 70-80 range. It does fine at the 65 range.

Saw a Tsla S P100 at Home Depot Sunday. Sure looks nice. Something like that Would be a good town car but not a Interstate Hwy cruiser actually going somewhere. Almost bought a Tesla S Long range last June but it has too many negatives as far as going somewhere so I bought a used '17 Panamers 4S. Big gas tank, 23.7 gal and at a steady 75mph will get the claimed 28mpg. Hard to do a steady 75 mph once your on I-20 past ??? Pecos, Texas where the legal
is 80 mph if memory serves. Even if not legal, more do over 80 than under.

Mabe UPS will arrive today instead of Tuesday. Ever positive.

I should add that my wife drives a 2013 Nissan Leaf EV. It's great for the driving she does around town here in Plano. House to office is about 1 mile each way! Shopping is no more than 5 miles each from house to shopping. We have lost at least 2 bars of capacity, so instead of the 88 miles range, we are down to about 60 mile range at this point. Bought it used so cannot complain. Get's plugged every ever other night for a 2-3 hour charge using the fast charger. If I use the slow charger, takes about 10+ hours of charger. The major bonus is that it pre-cools or pre-heats the interior while the car is still plugged in.

Would I buy another EV? NO, it's just not practical living here in TX with the long driving distances, and higher speeds. I'll keep driving my diesel as long as I can.

Yep. My brother used to recommend a Leaf whenever I showed some interest in EV/Tesa. They make sense in the metroplex imho as a go to work and back and shopping for groceries. And it seems that's what a whole lot of people seem to do with their lives. Ugggh.

Had a used '14 Porsche SE Hybrid. It could get about 14 miles on electric only if I drove it on a Sunday morning at not over 45 mph. Traded after a year having it. Bought a new '17 XJL 3.0. Put 53k on it and never had the slightest problem going from Tx to CA or any other time. Bit of a long wheel base though for around town/parking. Moved on from it last June. Strikingly good looking car. CA cousins miss it.

Timing chain tensioner fixed my ML350 Bluetec rattle when cold or less than 60* C. Runs so well I've put out of my mind buying either a E 450 station wagon to replace it or GLE 450.....got now anyway. Got 131 K miles on it and no need to change.

New GLE's have a smaller fuel tank (22.5 gal) and no six cylinder diesel. Jaguar/Landrover has a diesel but I don't care for their sloped roof lines.

For now I'll just stick to Tesla Stk and not the car. Bought some on 3/05 at $722 and some on 3/05 at $722. Doing well till it crashes and burns later.
