Key Not Detected FOB Re Sync? 2013 ML550 W166

Need to resync FOB to car...DIY procedure? After fob battery replacement, one of my Keyless Go FOBs isnt recognized by car, wont start car, wont unlock doors with touch, but the lock/unlock buttons work fine (I get Key Not Detected error on screen). Have used the Fob inserted to ignition to start and run the car with no issue. Second Fob works fine. Ive tried the insert key, pull out, hold Lock and click unlock 5 times, click hatch open button trick to no avail. Since second fob works, Im certain it isnt an onboard antenna, sensor or fuse. I imagine it just needs to be sync'd to the car again. Anyone know how to do this without going to the dealer?

Switch the battery between 2 fobs to test it and see if it the battery issues

Deactivating and activating
If you do not intend to use a SmartKey for an
extended period of time, you can deactivate the
KEYLESS-GO function of the SmartKey. The
SmartKey will then use very little power, thereby
conserving battery power. For the purposes of
activation/deactivation, the vehicle must not be
nearby.
SmartKey 79
Opening and closing
Z

X To deactivate: press the&button on the
SmartKey twice in rapid succession.
The battery check lamp of the SmartKey
flashes twice briefly and lights up once, then
KEYLESS-GO is deactivated (Y page 81).
X To activate: press any button on the Smart-
Key.
or
X Insert the SmartKey into the ignition lock.
KEYLESS-GO and all of its associated features
are available again.

found this in the manual. good luck, ron

Didnt work either. I tried the insert key to ignition, turn on, pull out, hold lock and click unlock 5 times, release and click hatch button trick too. Nothin. I can remote lock and unlock from the FOB fine, just the keyless go features dont work. Pushbutton start and touch handle lock/unlock dont work. "Key not detected" error. Second FOB works fine. This particular FOB is spare and seldom used.

Sit in the car, try to start the car. When message pop say key fob not detected, hit unlock twice, and see if you are able to start with the push start

the directions were specific to the fob and indicated that it must be far away from the vehicle. you seem to be describing near vehicle process.

Rcsjr- i followed the reactivation procedures you outlined above, no luck. I also tried the procedure I described above to no avail.

GLK Superfan- tried your procedure above, still no luck, key not recognized. FOB buttons work fine, just keyless go features still not working on that 1 FOB.

Since this key is a spare, has not been used in quite some time. Replaced the battery on BOTH FOBs, but this one isnt recognized by the car.

if your dealer does courtesy visits, may be worthwhile to stop by and tell them you are having trouble re-syncing. FOB could also just be done. good luck, ron

Hi,
I'm having the same issue - kinda..
My fob works but the fob has to be very close to the ignition switch. The unlock feature works fine. Can you elaborate on the trick you speak of here?
TIA.
