Need help fixing AUX with no sound

Hi,

First I have ML350 2015 with NTG 4.7
I bought an Android Unit N600 Snapdragon 625 9 Inch, everything work perfectly, original NTG, 4G, GPS, Carplay.... Except for the sound.
I never used my AUX before since the 4 years I have my truck and just realized it simply doesn't work, even when I plugin an MP3 player, Ipad or Ipod, everything else have sound, radio, Bluetooth, CD..... I even tried with another AMI to AUX adapter

So far a list of everything I tried:
Removed the Ground loop noise isolator I bought to connect directly to the AUX AMI adapter
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B019393MV2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B019393MV2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Because at first I thought it was my new head unit that didn't had sound coming out to AUX, I plugged in a pair headphone in the cable running in my center console using the Ground loop noise isolator.
Tried another AUX to AMI cable, I also tried the USB to AMI and plugin my phone and I can see it's charging
Resetting command by oldling the power button for a few second.
Removing fuse 100 and 147 for a few second in the fuse box under the rear left seat
Removing fuse 21 for a few second on the side passenger door fuse box.
Tried multiple devices in the AUX that I know have sound
I even removed the Android unit and put back everything to it's original state, just to make sure the Android unit is not in fault.

I took a couple of pics to show my setting and hopefully someone can help.

My AUX is available and selected

In engineering menu
7.5 - Most is ON and Audio source is External amp
7.7 - Audio AUX is ON

The AMI I use and I even tried a second one.

Here's the before and after for those interested on the Android unit, ( My problem had nothing to do with the unit, my AUX doesn't work no matter what device I use)

Hi. I have a 2014 Mercedes ML350 W166. I am having the same issue and took all the steps you did. Also tried a different connection type recommended by Avin, where I purchased the unit. Unfortunately the sound is coming from the little speaker which came with the unit instead of car speakers. Did you find a solution by any chance?

Edit.
Now my car speakers stopped working even with the command NTG radio etd.

My 2014 ML350 (NTG4.5) has aux sound with mobile/MP4/MP3. However, I ordered the 9-inch Android Unit with Snapdragon 625 from AliExpress. No sounds from the speakers. I tried several times and finally I returned the android unit to the seller.

How does the unit respond with the factory back up camera, any delay? How is the resolution when using the factory NTG screen/menus? I want to do this but only want to use the NTG, I do not care about the android side.

The reaction is really good. It will start the back up camera immediately when you reverse your car. If you install the 9 inch android system, you will remove the factory screen and install the new bigger screen.

Thanks for the input. There has been so many mixed reviews on this, it has made me hesitant on doing it. Also, there are so many places to purchase, with no real feedback from any... Like there are many options on just Ebay alone.

This is the first I’ve heard of problems with these. I was going to order one in the next couple months. Any updates or more info on this? Do you guys have the basic sound system or the Harmon Kardon system?

If you futzed with anything in the engineering menu, that would have screwed it up. Unit needs to be hardwired. Did you use the AUX input activation via the android side of the screen?

@OnlyGerman if you only use the NTG side of the screen, it will look pixelated. Also, the screen usually defaults to the Android side, so you'll inevitably have to toggle back and forth.

I did activate the AUX input via the android side of the screen. No sounds...

Finally, I fixed the issue. I need to move the fiber from the original to the new adapter which is shown in the video at 6:38.
Now I really like this android head ($430 from AliExpress, Snapdragon 662, 6gb RAM,128G ROM, Android 11). I used the android auto with my mobile hotspot. Super!!!

Glad you figured it out. Hopefully I can order mine soon. I don’t mind my NTG 4.7 but the 9” screen and newer looks would be nice. Does yours do the forward DVR when driving? I was wondering about that feature. I’m hoping it uses the OEM camera and loop records.

2012 ML350 Bluetec
Hello all - I’m new member here but looking for some help. I purchased one of the Mercedes Benz NTG4.5 / NTG4.7 2012-2015 Wireless Carplay Airplay Decoder for my ML350 bluetec (2012 model) to be able to use CarPlay on the car. It is quite similar to the Roadtop systems (mine was this https://www.ebay.com/itm/385238516660) and I followed the instructions from one of the Youtube videos on installation. Connecting the main harness wires (including moving the fiber optic audio cable into the new unit’s main harness) and threading the unit into the HVAC area was relatively easy but I cannot figure out why audio is not outputting once the unit is connected.

I’ve tried:
  1. reseating the main harness in the MB unit to make sure its a correct seal and re-inserting the fiber optic cable multiple times
  2. Make sure the audio source is set to AUX
  3. Gone into the engineering mode menu to enable MOST ON & EXTERNAL AMP in 7.5 and AUDIO AUX ON in 7.7…then let the car sit locked for over an hour
  4. Make sure no mute buttons are on
  5. Deleted all prior bluetooth devices in the mercedes OEM interface
  6. Unplugged anything from the arm center box
I’m confused because no audio is working at all with the new Carplay Unit installed, but when I go back to the OEM headunit then audio works again. The instructions that came with my unit made no mention of changing anything in the engineering mode menu FWIW. Could it be a faulty unit or more likely just a setting in my 2012 MB that I haven’t set right with the audio (I also see mentions of OBD AUX activation, is this potentially the issue?).

Have 100% of the same problem. I am really curious about what you ended up doing?
* 2013 GLK 350
* No aux port but I have AMI & USB in the armrest
* Did transfer the fiber optic cables
* The head unit functions and sound works fine, radio, bt audio etc.
* My aux was enabled by default but I still checked engineering menu plays as well
* Tried connecting the android unit to an external speaker via 3.5mm jack and it works fine, sound is coming out just fine
* Tried connecting my ipad to the car's AMI interface via AMI to Aux cable (tried two different versions) - no sound

So at this point I am thinking of two possible causes
1) The android unit is outputting the signal through the main cable harness (& there's no need to use the 3.5mm output), the car is detecting that and disabling the AUX. The sound signal is somehow not coming right
2) My car's AMI interface is faulty

I can't see a third potential option. Any help please?

So I did get it working like it should but it was totally random. I think something to do with how the Mercedes doesn't "power off" properly why you try to alternate between the external and internal amp settings. I need to check when I get home but basically just randomly going through instructions (which mine were wrong, it was saying to keep it on external amp) and when I let the car rest while set on internal amp, it suddenly started working. I don't remember specifically doing anything different but it was definitely and oddity related to Mercedes car not properly resetting that somehow made it work.

I know that's not super helpful (I'm out of town so not near my car to remember the specific menu options) but I'd say keep going through the process where you're in the dev menu, set to internal amp, then scroll all the way to bottom and do the reset, let it sit. It should eventually work once Mercedes properly decides to recognize it

So you for sure have to use the AMI interface. The OEM audio (radio, sat radio etc ) runs through the factory radio equipment but the aftermarket part you installed (CarPlay and android apps) has to go through the AMI interface to feed into the factory system. It’s dumb I know but it’s the only way it works. It’s a pain in the *** to get it all working especially with no instructions. You need to get that AMI interface to work first. Do you have the factory Mercedes dongle for the connection or are you using the one that came in the box? The one that came in the box didn’t work with mine and I had to get a Mercedes one. An Audi one might work also.
