Reverse camera retrofit?

So my reverse camera recently failed and after poking around for replacements I’ve realized that there was an updated version for 2015 which includes a mechanized flap which opens and protrudes the hidden reverse camera when activated. It seems there is only one plug that’s been added to the assembly which is the switch/motor for the mechanism as the camera cables and lift door buttons are the same.

So my question is has anyone with 12-14 updated to this newer style camera assembly? what could be involved in doing so? Would be nice to see this extra plug hanging out in the existing harness. If not, I wonder if it could be rigged to work with a trigger wire from the reverse lights. Sort of the way aftermarket reverse cameras are activated. I’ve always just kind kind of hated how the fixed camera sticks out. Especially against the white paint on mine.

I see, i guess the only thing left for me to do is check if there is a additional plug at the harness for the updated unit. I have a feeling it wont be there. lol

Interested as well. Also, how challenging is it to get to this camera to replace?

I haven't been able to get to this project yet as I've been working on a rear seat headrest swap the last couple weeks. But it seems as if wed know if we can pop the hatch trim and examine the harness. It seems as though we'd only need to see if there is an extra 3 pin plug sitting there to power the mechanism. As ive mentioned before, if not, we'd only need to rig the plug to the reverse light somehow to trigger the mechanism.

Does anyone have the part numbers? I would love to have a rear camera with better resolution.

I'm pretty sure the flip-out camera is only for vehicles with 360 camera, not sure if there's any additional coding to make it work. Mine is a 2014 with 360 and it has a flip-out camera.
