Glove box latch replacement

I purchased a replacement latch for 2014 ML but now I have no idea how to replace it! Has anyone done this? My search for last 2 weeks doesn’t show anything, just people like me that bought one and can’t figure the procedure out.

thanks

I've attached some documents from WIS but couldn't find anything specific about replacing the latch.

At most, I've include the cylinder removal and the glove box removal. Perhaps removing the glove box at minimum so you can review it to possibly see an option for separating the glove box skin from the box itself and gaining access to the latch mechanism.

Good luck.

This is covered exhaustively on this site. Keep digging with the search feature.

thanks! Appreciate your efforts. If I can’t figure it out I will find a used/ new one. Of course I ordered the car with the dash stitching so that is going to hurt!

I guess I am missing it then, I find all kinds of posts about other chassis model and a few with a different latch design replacement but I cannot find anything on replacing latch only for 166, just buy a new box.

I would appreciate the terms you use for that search

Thanks for your help, but my problem is the latch on glove box door that contains the lockable cylinder. My part also came from China like the center console springs do. Seems like many sellers have my part that broke but no one has instructions. The console latch thread just alerted me to another problem I may have coming down the road! The search continues..

For those that have purchased the replacement glove box latch from China as I have, this report of how I fixed mine might help.

the replacement latch has a black plastic insert that has the two hinge holes that break on the glove box portion of the original latch. The latch has two holes and a small thin rod goes through the four hinge holes, 2 fixed and two hinge holes that allow the pivot.

what I did was carefully remove the two hinge holes with a sharp razor blade, insert the rod through the two holes on original latch, insert the two “cutoff” plastic hinge holes on each end, put super glue on the two small cutoffs and insert the whole assemble back into the original location. Taped on to hold and let sit for 24 hours. Works good as new! I did lubricate the rod with Vaseline to help it turn as easy as it could and to protect it from too much super glue.

so the latch from China was used only for the two outer hinge holes for $27.00 but much cheaper than buying new or used glove box!

yes I took pictures but did not realize I was full and so it didn’t save them, sorry about that!

hope this helps someone in the future

Thanks but it's hard to follow without the pictures :-)
