Lost power on highway…CEL for 1 second. Dealer say radar sensors bad

Was driving on highway. All of a sudden I lost power, the CEL went on for 1 second and then went off. I tried giving it gas but wouldn’t accelerate at all.

Pulled over on shoulder and turned car off and back on and it’s been fine ever since. No CEL. Took to MB dealer and they said they didn’t find any codes but they assume that the radar sensors are corroded and caused this.

The radar sensors, blind spot, parking sensors all work however.

Also does it make sense that a corroded sensor can cause the car to shut off?

What doesn't make sense is that a CEL was set (even if only for a second) and a code was NOT set. 99.9% chance there's a code; did you ask the dealer if they actually plugged into the car? Ask the righ question and the answer can't be dodged. Ask the wrong question and the answer can be avoided.

I scanned when I got home and got a few errors. This is a cheap $10 obd2 scanner so I don’t know how accurate it is.

I notice that there are some codes inactive for fuel pump. To me a bad fuel pump would make more sense than faulty radar sensor which causes it to shut down on highway.

I googled these codes and this is what I got.

U0155 - Instrument Cluster is not receiving or transmitting messages on the CAN bus
P0463 - Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input
P0179 - Fuel Composition Sensor Circuit High Input
P2068 - Fuel Level Sensor B Circuit High Input
U0111 - Lost Communication with Battery Energy Control Module "A"
U0100 - Lost Communication with ECM/PCM 'A
U0168 - Lost Communication With Vehicle Security Control
P0627 - Fuel Pump 'A' Control Circuit/Open
P2539 - Low Pressure Fuel SYstem Sensor Circuit
P1CCF - Engine Fault Code (Maybe High Pressure Fuel Pump)
P2137 - Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch B/C Voltage Correlation
P2135 - Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A/B Voltage Correlation

Why do I have so many fuel errors?

I recall reading something about the radar sensors causing similar issues on another model. I was shocked to read the two were connected in such a way that could cause such a power issue.

Did you maybe stab the accelerator pedal just before it went into limp?

What do you mean by stab?

Was slowly driving on the highway, maybe slight acceleration ~1500 RPM, and then got a stutter, CEL for 1 sec, and I gave it gas and nothing was happening. Car was slowing down instead of maintaining speed or accelerating. Once restarted the car, it was fine. I don't think it even went into limp mode.

Is it a HPFP issue judging by I am getting all these fuel codes?

Those symptoms are very similar to my car when a ignition coil went bad. Shut it off, restarted and ran fine for 2 more days then failed completely. Had the CEL and power loss too.

But I don’t have any misfires codes when I scan the car.

Did you scan the car for codes when it happened?

When the radar sensors screw up you sometimes get the red triangle with the car inside that will flash above the fuel gauge for like 1 second and it beeps twice. My distronic likes to trigger that sometimes when the car is really dirty and because it thinks I’m about to smash into something. I’ve never had the throttle cut out though and I’ve never seen a CEL come on. But yeah if the CEL comes on then it should trigger a code. I’d maybe start by checking your battery voltage and clean and tighten your battery cables. All sorts of weird things happen if they are dirty or loose. Good place to start anyways.

The battery was replaced by a MB battery about 4 months back.

Got a response from the dealer. They think it’s the radar sensors causing this issue and want $3000 CAD to fix. However there is no guarantee this will fix it for sure.

If I unplug these blind spot sensors, will it at least stop the car from dying while driving?

I would try it. And I would try to source the modules yourself, the dealer loves upcharging to fill their pockets....
