Double click keyfob to disable Keyless Go?

In the owners manual and everywhere online, I've learned that you can double press the lock button to disable the Keyless Go radio to prevent relay thefts. Well it doesn't work for me. When I do this all I get is two beeps and four flashes, but I can still unlock by touching the handle.

Can anyone confirm the double click to disable works for them? I have a MY2014 ML, Canadian spec.

Sorry if this sounded obvious (I am sure you tried it already but just in case) did you make sure you did this at quick succession, meaning you didn't wait for more than a second for the second press? You should see the red light flash as normal but then stay lit from a second to confirm it is disabled.

Alternatively, you could get a faraday bag but make sure to get two for both of your keys, or just remove the battery of your spare key and get one faraday bag if you prefer it that way. Same goes with the double lock button method, make sure you do it on both keys.

Just tried it again. Clicking twice in quick succession, I just see 2 short blinks, not one short one long...

Edit: found a video where the light blinks 3x (short-short-long). I don't get that third blink.

Not true with the w166's.

Sorry to hear that it doesn't work. I was not sure if your key supports this feature, since you tried it many times I am afraid it indeed doesn't.

No. That works on different chassis models, but not on the W166.

AFAIK the W166 uses a different technology - there is a motion sensor in the fob itself. When the fob is in your pocket and moving, it is transmitting the code to lock / unlock the doors and start the engine. When the fob is not moving - which you can test by placing it on some object close to one of the door handles on the outside of the vehicle - it stops transmitting the code after a few minutes of sitting still, following which you can no longer open the doors by touching the inside of the handle until you pick up the fob again.

No, you are wrong.

I own an ML W166, 2015 and I does work on mine.

After double pressing on the key fob and after hearing the double sound on the car I CAN NOT open the car by touching the door handles, only by pressing the open button on the key fob.

For those who are sceptical I can make a video.

I own the exact same vehicle and it does not work on mine, but the "stationary" key fob does. Both are obviously Canadian cars, and mine even came here from a dealership in Alberta (it was the last ML sold in Canada in 2015, in late November and one of the last VINs produced in the plant in Alabama - the rebadged GLEs were already in the showrooms). In that case I don't know what the difference could be and why it would work on some but not on others.

I left my key on the floor next to the car. Came back 30 minutes later and keyless unlock was still working. So I guess there are at least 3 generations of Mercedes key that all look the same - always enabled, double press to disable, and with motion sensor. Mine is an early 2014 model built in 2013 so I guess it has the first generation key.

I suspect it would be the car itself as well as the key (i.e. some control module would need to be changed or reprogrammed for the second option to work), but yes, it would appear that there are several iterations of the keyless go system.

Then make a video. It's "skeptical" btw. This was not a feature on the w166 KG modules.
