Under no circumstances do recharge modern MB AC systems w/o evacuating it, checking for leaks and weighting the correct amount of refrigerant for your vehicle.
Adding refrigerant by monitoring pressure with variable displacement compressor is bound to damage the compressor. The electronic control valve may adjust your pressures, and mistakenly overfill your system

Thanks. I was dreading the ride from Galveston to Montgomery this morning so I was looking for a quick temporary fix. Got in the car at 0715 and the a/c was working a little bit. So the ride to the dealer was ok. They'll look at it Monday.

Fingers crossed it is only refrigerant. If it is the ECV intermittently working, it will be a new compressor since MB doesn't sell the $50 repair part ->> $1000+ at the dealer.
Or an intermittent sensor should be luck as well

Update
Dealer called to say it was 2 lbs low. They topped it off and put in some dye. When it starts to warm up again I'm to bring it back so the can look for leaks.

Depending on the AC feature code , the amount of refrigerant can be different. Mine takes 900+ grams, i.e. 2 lbs.
