I'm interested.
Is there an installation how-to link I can peruse to see what I'd be getting into if I order the system?
Am I correct in thinking that ALL factory functions will remain untouched, and one can toggle between the OEM display and the AA upgraded display?
I have an android; I'd be looking for the wireless version of Android Auto; this unit has that feature?
Wife has an Apple; can the unit toggle seamlessly between AA and Carplay?

I'm still planning on it but it might be another few weeks. Funny how life keeps getting in the way!
I will be reporting back on my results though. Stay tuned...

*You would not believe how much time and energy (and a little bit of $) I have invested in phone mounts!! I think I may finally have the ones I want, just in time to install Apple Carplay and not need to see the phone anymore!!
Please do!

Hi all. I bought one of these back at end of January when the promo code was sent out. Took me a while to get around to installing it, but yesterday I got it done. Here's some info. (Installed in an ML63 over the ponds in Australia).
The install is relatively straight forward. Somone more dextrous than me could probably have it all done and configured in an hour or so, but i would anticipate you will need at least 2-3 hours to read everything, watch the videos, and take all the steps carefully. The hardest part for me was trying to get the head unit back into place with all the wires behind it. That was about 40 minutes on its own!!! But for some that might end up being 2 minutes.
Very important. Read the instructions that come with it first. There is a page about setting dip switches on the unit itself. Make sure you do these.
Then follow the video instructions. My unit was slightly different as I guess they have updated it a little since the video, but you will be able to work it out easy enough if you follow along slowly and carefully.
Once all was finally connected and in place, I went into the engineering menu as per the video, made the changes, turned off the car and went away for 40 mins and came back and turned it all on. I did the connection following the instructions re bluetooth etc and it all seemed to be set to go.
Initially I couldn't hear anything through carplay and I thought i had the dreaded sounds not working issue that many have experienced with these types of things, but after a few minutes and checking and double checking etc, i tried turning the volume right up and I could hear the sound, but it was very quiet and distorted. In the manual it says, that if this happens, connect two of the ground wires to each other (they show you which ones in the manual) and so i tried that and it was then working more like it should.
Carplay came up and started working fine. Note, it is not touch screen, so if you want that, you will have to look for other options. Everything is controlled by the Mercedes dial controller on the console. The volume buttons on the steering wheel work as do the phone buttons. However, the track forward and back buttons on the main head unit next to the main volume dial, do not work for track forwarding and back which is kind of annoying as I used to use them a lot.
My car has the AMI port in the central console storage box, so I had to run the aux cord to the AMI cord (all supplied) from the head unit back to the centre console. I have yet to decide how to make this neater, but at least it is all working.
You have to select AUX on the head unit to have sound from car play, and there is a notable difference in sound output, which can be improved, by selecting Sound on the Mercedes NTG screen and choosing Boost. However this brings a lot of noise into the system which you hear between tracks and for some this might be quite annoying.
When getting into the car and turning car on the system takes about 10-15 seconds to come on, but if you were previously on car play the last time you turned the car off, it does go back to where you were and the track you were previously playing will be there and on pause (which i like, as opposed to it just starting to play).
So for the $260 or so that it cost, i would say it is a good result. Easy enough install, mostly good instructions, and a relatively good outcome overall.
I cant stress enough though, if you buy one of these, follow the instructions in both the manual and the video carefully and slowly and dont rush or shortcut anything and you should be fine.
Hope this helps someone in their decision process.

HI,
My original Unit doesn't work on my 2014 ML350. It doesn't turn on. The on button light keeps on flashing but nothing in the unit will work, therefore not sending image to the screen. Will your solution work on despite this issue ? if not what else could you recommend ?

I dont really know myself, but if your original unit doesnt turn on you wont be able to select AUX and you wont be able to get to the engineering menu, so I cant imagine anything like this would help you. Maybe you'll have to buy a head unit from a wrecker or something. Maybe go to a car audio store and see what they can do. I am not sure. Good luck.
