Help with 2015 ML350 Console

UPDATE: I am unable to fix this but someone in another thread suggested an idea: remove the spring that keeps popping it up, so the passenger side arm rest just stays down unless manually opened. That would work just fine for me. Would it be easier for me to access that spring and remove it? If so can anyone talk me through it?

Not sure how this happened but suddenly the passenger side console cover stays open and the spring button latch is missing. Anyone know what this part is called and more importantly, anyone know a DIY fix for dummies?

Pics attached. Thanks!

Missing part

Won't close

I'm not seeing the pics you say are attached, but I'm guessing you're having the same issue this other thread was about...

https://mbworld.org/forums/m-class-w...nt-w166-2.html

replacement parts for the spring and latch are available on ebay or aliexpress

Anyway, I am unable to fix this. I'm not too handy and after those 1st 2 screws, I cant figure out how to get the rest disconnected.

Someone in another thread suggested an idea: "remove the spring that keeps popping it up, so the passenger side arm rest just stays down unless manually opened."

That would work just fine for me. Wouldn't it be easier for me to access that spring and remove it? If so can anyone talk me through it?

to get at the spring you have to follow a lot of the same procedure to remove the console. The back seat console trim where the vents are is where the spring is, near the top where the arm rest opens. i also had trouble intially following the console removal procedure and I did have success with pulling the spring for the broken arm rest side by just pulling back the plastic trim at the top by the vents. I forget how far i got into the console removal procedure as some screws may have been removed that allowed enough movement in the trim for me to pull it back and reach the spring with some angled pliers. Careful trying this, i was very worried about breaking the plastic and causing more damage because of how far i had to pull back the trim to reach the spring. Luckily it all worked out for me and was a temporary fix until i managed to take apart the whole console and replace the broken tab.

Thanks! So once you were able to slide back that trim by the vents, you were able to remove the spring with angled pliers? Just pull it out? That sounds like my new goal.

I found the instructions in that other post really difficult to follow. Maybe I will search the forum and Google and see if I can find something more geared towards dummies. If I can just get to the part where I can pull that trim back, I'll be happy.

Thanks again for your help!

Musicmafia, I had the exact same problem with my 2013 ML350 W166. Found this video:
that finally showed me where the screws were between the rear vents and the plastic box. They are the two screws that hold the box into the console, along with the four that hold it to the floor. Watch it carefully, many times. It’s hard to see them and hard to figure out where they are, since they only show themselves when you physically pull the air vents back away from the console. After finally finding them, I was able to replace the broken latch in less than 15 minutes total time - including prep, repair, and cleanup. It was so simple you really will work harder to remove the spring than replace the latch! Replacement latch kit cost about $12 from Amazon and includes both left and right side latches and springs.

Thanks for the tips and video.

So before you even remove any screws, you need to pull the air vents away from the console to expose the 2 screws that need to be removed?

Do you have a link to the parts on Amazon?

Thanks again

MOTOALL Center Console Armrest Right Side Latch Clip for-Mercedes-Benz W166 W292 X166 GL

this is my search to find my console clip, but I note it does NOT fit a 2015. You’ll need to search for a clip that fits your specific year, make, and model.

probably similar in cost, but not in design.

since there apparently was an engineering change in the clips themselves, I’m not confident in assuming the video I linked for you will accurately show the assembly of the center console. I can only say that those two screws were the missing link in my repair experience. Prior to finding them I pulled the entire console out of the car and went over it with a camera and magnifier, trying to find the final connections that assembled the container to the console, only to fail. Those two screws are VERY well hidden on the 2013 ML350. Perhaps they’re in the same place on the 2015.
