ML350 - M276 - Cam Chain Tensioner + Check valve install instructions

i everyone,

I’ve been searching all day for a proper step-by-step guide or PDF that covers replacing the hydraulic cam chain tensioners and installing the updated check valve (the common rattle fix on the later-style tensioners).

So far the only thing I’ve found is the ~7-minute official Mercedes tech video on YouTube, which is helpful for the general idea but way too brief and lacks the torque specs, special tools list, tricks, and detailed steps I’d like before tearing into the job this weekend.

If anyone here has access to:
  • WIS/ASRA (EPC)
  • StarTekInfo
  • Or a good factory-level PDF/write-up
…could you please share the procedure (or the relevant pages) for removing/installing the camshaft timing chain tensioner and fitting the check valve?

Car is a 2013 ML350 with the M276 engine (happy to give exact model/engine code if it matters or VIN)

Thanks in advance—really don’t want to miss anything.

Much appreciated!

Don't mind me asking: do you have active rattling?
If so are the intake phaser locked or failed?

Tensioners can rattle with or with out check-valves. They do already have an internal built-in check valve.
No1 cause: rattles are VVT Phasers
No2 cause: limp tensioners on thin oil.

New tensioners always a good thing

I do have an active rattle at start up - it has gotten louder over the last couple of months. I have not check my intake phasers - Good to know!

If this Rattling has been ignored long enough you will get "correlation faults" codes with CEL.

Then two camshafts will simply need replacement in addition to two phasers and associated labor charges.
