Boost Leak

Anyone have a boost leak? Can damage engine, turbo. Can cause detonation due to turbo spooling more and making more heat. Can over spin turbo. I have a louder than usual turbo spooling sound and blow off sound. Also IAT's get 60*above ambient with just a couple 3 second high boost runs. There is oil leaking out of turbo up pipe connection. Time to do a boost leak test. Need some T- Bolts those snail hose clamps dont hold over 20psi boost.

Wait, so you plan on testing it for a boost leak right at the turbo itself? Wouldn't the oil in the boost pipe indicated that the internal seals on the turbo are shot?

No that oil is from pcv, goes thru intake on drivers side. You block off both turbo inlets and drill a hole in 1 side to pressurize. I could not get 10 psi in w/o it popping off the turbo inlet though. Not much to grab onto. Anyway, I had a major leak on drivers side Y pipe, we need T bar clamps not cheap weak worm clamps.

No. Boost gauge is reading 19-21psi from the manifold.

Sorry to bring this one back from the dead but I wanted to share something with you guys. I agree that those flimsy worm clamps aren't going to hold any boost for very long, frankly surprised MB used them at all.

This is what I did so far:
Replaced all four flimsy worm clamps with big beefy T-bolts I sourced from eBay for under $10 shipped for all four. There is a difference already on the top end when the engine is at full chat, power is linear and endless.
I really suggest you guys all do this for the time/cost investment is so minor. You don't even have to remove the intercoolers, the worm clamps you can just unscrew all the way until they come apart and the same with the T-bolts. I did the whole job in 20 minutes. Took a picture of the size clamps you need which is stamped right on the band for you.

Next step is having a fab shop closeby make me a new Y-pipe between the intercoolers and replace the rubber and junk clamps with silicone and more T-bolts. There is feed coming from both turbos and there is even less meat for those junk clamps to grab onto, guaranteed some is leaking there as well.

Just wanted to share with you all. Let me know if you have any questions, but highly recommend this mod!

Regards

FYI, I had a clamp that was loose from the intercooler to the y-pipe on the outlet side of the intercooler. Check these also, there are three of them! One on each intercooler and one on the throttle body.
