Need Help - Stranded - Ignition Left bank

The car ran for an hour, then CEL on every cyl for left bank plus p0300 (random misfire). The codes were p0307,0308,0309,0310, 0311, 0312. Nothing else.

I had to disconnect the battery - the scanner erase wouldn't do it. It drove for another hour, then same thing. Did the battery thing but this time it worked only a few minutes. I did this several times but the bank remained down. I checked all connections looking for loose wire - nothing. Then waiting an hour, it started fine - I'm driving back 3 hours and we'll see but I expect problems. I saw another thread where someone had a similar problem and it was the transformer (sometimes called the power supply). 000 150 01 58 is the part number.

A few weeks ago this happened once - did the battery and it cleared. Just to be on the save side I changed the plugs and carefully examined the coil pack (which is the 07 later one) and saw no arcing or other problems.

I had the same problem. Then engine was cold or after cooling of for approx an hour, it drove as normal. But after some time same faults again - check engine light on, attaching a scanner same codes as you. Showing left egnition bank faulty, but it showed up to be the power supply mounted in the mittle of the cylinder banks up front. This dual power supply produces 180V and 25V for each egnition bank module.

Solution

Yes. The solution was the power supply. I guess it doesn't show up as a code because the main computer shuts things down when it detects the misfire (which is caused by faulty power supply). A very tricky diagnosis - I ended up guessing mainly.

Yes this is a tricky fault, no codes for the power supply and your right, DME shots down the ignition bank. Pricing is also much lower for this compared to the ignition bank.

As the power supply holds 180V for several minutes after turning ignition of, my guess is that it is very risky (to damage the power supply) if one disconnects to connector to the power supply to quickly!
