I've been lurking for some time, but I finally joined the Bi-Turbo club yesterday. In fact I bought Drabux's old S600L. I've had an S500 and two S600L's, but never a turbo, which I've been looking forwards to for some time. In the past, I've also had a Lexus Soarer (active), Audi S8, Jag XJ12, BMW 540i and 750i. The V12TT is obviously the best so far, but I've only just begun to get to know it.
I'm pretty hands-on, and will tackle most car work, which I've been doing for 20-odd years. I used to be into tuning and modification, but I think I'm past that stage now, and just like cars with big engines.
Edit: thanks to some rather more ambitious friends and relatives, I've also driven some good machinery recently: TVR Tuscan, BMW M3, AMG C55, Porsche 911C4, Ferrari 360 & 612. The V12TT is nothing like as overtly sporting, but I think it has the legs of all of them (apart from the TVR). The Merc does the unique magic trick of being relaxing as well, and I love the understatement.
The kids always name our cars, and after some deliberation, this one is called Mercury (The Roman God with the winged feet). My daughter is studying physical chemistry at the moment, and the bodywork is also so good, it looks like the metal.
Cheers, Nick

Hopefully, I can find out why I have Check Engine light and limp mode happening often here. Posted in another thread on that topic.
When the car is running well, it is sheer dream power!
The check engine / malfunction indicator light (MIL) is primarily there to show when a fault in the engine management system may result in exhaust emissions 50% higher than federal limits. So if you have a lambda sensor, water temp sensor, MAP, spark plugs, coil pack or something similar thats not working 100%, it'll get picked-up and may trigger the MIL.
The engine ECU generates & records a large number of sensor outputs and fault codes that can be read with a generic OBD2 reader, and these are so cheap and so useful now, there's no point not having one. You can get a self-contained one, like a DVM, but the best option is a USB or bluetooth interface for a laptop or smartphone.
While many sensors give the game away with out-of-range readings, many problems are more subtle, and need some understanding of what ought to happen, and what are the respective symptoms when different things go slightly wrong. But there's lots of help available.
The other trick is to get good OBD2 software (on-board diagnostics). Many sellers bundle large quantities of useless demonstration software, and tell you to buy the full version as soon as you try to get something useful out of the system. You tend to get what you pay for. $50-100 should easily cover it.
OBD2 readers also allow you read and reset all the diagnostics, so you have control over what's happening. You're not dependent on someone else to do this for you. Unfortunately, that someone else may not be smart or experienced enough to get the diagnosis right anyway. Its not always straightforward.

I'm Astro (no, really, I am...)
49
Married (to a truly wonderful woman), 3 kids, 3 step-kids.
3 of them in College, 1 complete, 2 to go.
Just bought the S600 because a friend was selling it...don't need the car, but have admired it since he bought it....so, now I have 2 hobby cars, one slightly more useful in modern day driving than the other...
I am a former Navy Fighter pilot, flew the F-14 and F/A-18. Currently work for United Airlines and have been very active in the Navy Reserve. My college major was Astrophysics...so, for the last 26 years, I have been known as "Astro"...it's a fighter thing...
I joined this forum a while back, this is my first post. My first MB was an 1981 240D that I inherited from my late father. Next was a 300E that I got for my stepson. The S600 is MB number 3. I turn my own wrenches whenever possible. Just finished a head gasket on the 300E, and a suspension rebuild on the XC. Have the parts for Bilsteins and IPD swaybars ready to install on the T5 as soon as I finish getting hardwood floors installed in the house.
Cheers,
Astro

have a 2005 CL600, I've had it for about 2 years now, its blue... the only reason I bought the car... and according to the car spent 2300ish hours and done 60k miles in it. Honestly I love the car but I've spent far too much in keeping it going. I'd say the only things left are the shocks and turbos and the car will be like new again... Finally got me a Toyota FJ for the flooding in houston.
I currently a student, but I also dabble in international trading and investment holdings. Mostly interested in natural resource procurement for china right now. ^.^
