M275 idler pulley fitment headache
Car is a 2007 S65 AMG (221.179) with the V12 biturbo, M275.982 engine.
Part in question is number 5, "Guide pulley 2" in this diagram:
Problem is that there have been several updates to the part number, and I am encountering fitment issues.
The original part number is NLA, superseded to A 277 200 00 00.
First tried INA aftermarket, then a genuine MB part. Both have the same issue, which is a different "depth" from the outside rim, to the face of the inner race.
This causes the new bearing to hit/contact the timing case onto which it is mounted.
This picture should explain the difference, notice how the original (left) is almost flush from inside to outside, and on the new one (right) the inner race sits deeper.
Here is a pic of the front cylinder head/timing cover, circled where there is interference when the idler bolt is tightened down:
The part number on my timing cover is A 275 010 07 35, which apparently has been updated to A 275 010 11 35, pictured here:
I can see a slight difference to the mounting point, but I really don't want to spend $400 on yet another part.
Not to mention, I'd also have to rip apart the valve cover (just did the gasket) all for this one stupid idler pulley.
The old pulley is destroyed from me hammering on it, trying to get the inner race out, so car isn't driveable until this is fixed.
Are there any secret stashes of the old part, some new old stock somewhere?
Already searched eBay and all the usual places. Might call INA/Schaeffler tomorrow...
Has anybody done this job? WIS document AR01.30-P-5700MR attached.
