Maybach labeled by CNN "flop of the decade"

Just because they don't hit their sales target hardly qualifies the car as the "flop of the decade" .. the Pontiac Aztek was the flop of the decade ..
Leave it to the media to be clueless.
If they only sold 99 in 2006 vs. 400, the value of those cars for those owners just went up.
Its a beautiful car and while I see RR's driving around in SoCal, I see very very few Maybach's (relatively speaking).

Flop of the CENTURY tome means that things have gone awry for years. Take Malcom Bricklin and his Visionar Vehiles USA aka Chery. Now there's a desieable car QQ...

I don't understand why someone would spend so much for the 57 when the S600 has 90%. The 62 has a market but I don't know why it's priced so high when I understand there are many S class parts in the Maybach.

I just got back from Beverly Hills. I must have seen 2 dozen Bentleys, 1/2 dozen Phantoms and only one Maybach.
Does scarcity make the Maybach more prestigious?

Here in NYC, there are just as many, if not more Maybachs than RR's. IMO, the Phantom looks rich and commands attention while the Maybach doesn't.

It depends on how you define "quite well".... If you're comparing how many they sold in the US vs Europe, there is an overwhelming difference. If you're comparing Phaeton sales to its competitors, its a complete failure. VW sold 25,000 Phaetons in 5 years worldwide.

OK, point taken. But the Phaeton is definitely getting some high profile exposure ...many German government officials, and even the Pope, now use them.

I think that is quite a different case altogether. Lexus was a completely new brand, intended primarily for the American market and didn't have to contend with strong preconceptions of image-status etc.
