Are you forgetting about the other F1 hopeful on MB's payroll? '05 DTM Champion Gary Paffett.

I think this quote by Montoya (from a recent teleconference with media) sums up his goals:

From my point of view, to be able to say five years down the line hopefully I could go say ‘I won in CART. I won in IRL. I won in Formula 1 and I won in NASCAR.’ How many drivers in the world are able to say they’ve won in everything they raced on? That’s exciting to me.
Also, apparently DaimlerChrysler has a say in his separation from McLaren now

I’m not racing the Formula One program, but the reason I’m not driving the Formula One program is because DaimlerChrysler’s interest at the moment is for me to be here. To be realistic, we’re completely out of the championship this year, so there was no point… To learn here, it’s going to take time. The more time I can spend here in America and focus on next year’s deal is important

Let's see. All JPM needs to do is add LeMans to his resume (also) and he might be on par with Dan Gurney, or A.J.Foyt.

Montoya may be back to complete some races in 2006
By Syco Bill - July 14 2006

Even though Juan Pablo has left McLaren Mercedes, Ron Dennis has confirmed that he is still contracted to the team until the end of the 2006 season. This increases speculation that Juan may return to drive for Macca for a few more races, after Pedro told 'itv.com' that he may

...not complete the whole of the season. At first it seemed that McLaren would move Pedro aside for one of the rookies, however from this latest statement from Dennis it seems its 'More than possible' that we may see Juan Pablo Montoya back in the seat for some of the races and 'Highly unlikely' that we will see either Gary Peffett or Lewis Hamilton in the race seat this season.

I hope he comes back to at least finish 2006

I really doubt it. I think this play of words from McLaren is Ronspeak (tm) for "Mobil 1 would be pissed off to see Montoya wearing Havoline overalls this year"

PDLR drove for crappy Arrows/Jaguay.
Qualifying in France begins in 15 minutes. If the car is competitive for Magny-Cours (meaning that Raikkonen qualifies in the top three) then PDR will qualify in the top ten. That's my prediction.

F1 is like soccer: elegant if one is a fan (where the rare pass on track is thought of fondly for years to come, just like a great soccer goal), but not for those who appreciate subtlety (or have short attention spans).
You guys will have a different opinion of Nascar when Will Ferrell's movie comes out!

Everytime I see the movie trailer with the Frenchman with the Perrier sponsorship saying "I am coming for you Rickki Bobbie" I think of Jack Villeneuve and laugh.

Very well put! What were we talking about?

Regarding PDL, great drive by him. Too bad he got traffic in qualifying. His pace was very good in free air. I look to see him in the seat more than the rest of the season. On top of being a great driver (Barcelona Bullet is his name among the test teams), he is a real workhorse behind the wheel in testing and oddly enough for an F1 driver he's a really nice guy!
