Battery Protection - warning comes on only while driving

For about 4-5 times this week the malfunction indicator comes on after driving anywhere from 5 - 15 minutes. It clears after about 5 minutes. No problem prior to start or at start - everything working. For me it's more than an annoyance as my Radar/Laser system is tied to that circuit. Anyone have any ideas before I bring it in ? Maybe a particular fuse ?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Remove any aftermarket equiptment before you bring it to the dealer. They can easily blame you and your aftermarket equiptment without their having to investigate further. Even if they investigate, they can always blame and charge you and how could you possibly verify whether that is the case or not. You still might get blamed (and charged) even if you remove the equiptment if any wiring has been modified.

Hopefully, the problem is related to the recent recall regarding updating the battery control software. There have been reports of people having battery problems if the car is not started nearly daily. I haven't heard anyone yet that has had the recall performed. My last post was kind of negative; this one is more optimistic. Try posting your question or searching the the E-Class W211 forum.

yup, I get this, regularly, on my W211. I'm hoping that it is indeed the software recall. Most annoying, as it disables various useful things: headlamp washer, interior lights, Parktronic, and it switches the climate control to a basic mode.
Still not had my recall letter.

Calum - is it on startup or after driving a while ? The frequency picked up yesterday and is back down again today. I had it in the past on startup and then it would clear - they had replaced some module - so it"ll be back again after a call tomorrow.

It's never on startup for me, always after driving a while. Sometimes after only 10 minutes or so, sometimes after > 1 hour, on a longer journey. Happens almost every journey, regardless of whether there's a big electrical load on, or not.

Calum - Are you planning on taking it in ? I left a message with the Service Boss and told him I'm going to bring it in. I'll let you know what the outcome is - my feeling is not software but rather a module that controls the monitoring of voltage.

I was going to wait for the recall letter. I've already mentioned it, albeit to a sales person (whilst buying the W169) who said "yes, they all do that, sir. You just need to go on a few long journeys." Utter nonsense, in my case, as it still does it, then. I feared a similar reaction form the service drones, although I have heard of people here who had this problem go away when the recall work was done.
I'm living with it for now, but might raise it again in a few weeks.

Calum - Got it back - they changed out a defective battery control module (internal short) part # 211-540-69-45. It's a part connected to the battery (main) in the trunk (boot?). they also ran some tests (draw test) overnight to make sure. So far sems fine.
