Went to Autozone to get my codes - great idea from the forum!
2 X P0305 # 5 Misfire
2 X P0320 #2 Misfire
2 X P0300 Random Misfire
1 X P0130 o2 Sensor fault bank 1 sensor 1
Bought 1997 with 101K with 2 month 2k mile 50/50 warrenty from dealer. They replaced the harness plus just before purchase, will get more details, ran great for 3 weeks then started imtermentient CEL, with rough idle at stop signs. Next day ran fine. Repeat 6 times over last couple of weeks. Tried some heat and upgraded to premium octane for last 2 tanks dealer also suggested K44 injector cleaner. This morning ran fine for first 20 minutes then engine light came back and sluggish performance.
Would the o2 sensor cause misfires or should I start with the harness plugs and coils. There is a similar thread I was reviewing.
Thx
Mike

I just talked to MB service and in May 05 all plugs were changed plus the main wiring harness (not plug wires or coils). Then in sept plugs 6 and 4 were replaced. In general the car has had all A/B services.

BMW E30. I've turned to the dark side.
I strongly recommend you replace the plug wires for #2 and #5cyls. they are around $30 apiece so just start with the 2 bad cylinders. if that fixes your rough idle, i would see if autozone can clear you fault codes for you. then drive it for a while and see if the light comes back on. the o2 code may have been set by a missfire ( a lot of o2 in the exhaust will flat line an o2 signal and possibly set that p0130 code). it could be a waste of money to replace it first.

Buy your own OBDII scanner and save yourself a lot of time. Make sure you get one that allows you to clear the codes.....$50 max if you shop. Good for any car after 1995 and will pay for itself in aggravation the first time you use it.
