How clean is your engine?

I've had a new C230 for almost a year and the other day I noticed oil here and there on the engine. But not to the point of dripping on the ground.
(I'll try to post pictures sometime).
I guess dust is normal, but is it normal to find oil?
How does your engine look like? Like new? Do you have any sign of oil?
Should I take the car for warranty?

Most engines weep some oil, especially if they've been run hard. Don't worry about it. Wipe it off if it bothers you.

Don't agree with the previous poster, modern engines should not leak oil due to the exacting tolerances used in assembly today. Of course the oil you have noticed may be due to spillage during servicing but this should have been cleaned off at the time. You could clean the oil off yourself and then watch for it reappearing ,but as it is annoying you I would suggest you take the car back to your MB dealer and ask them to have a look.

I said "weep" not leak. Not enough to drip or run but enough to collect dirt.

things with and without wheels
It's not as much in the close tolerances but in the improvements in the sealing compounds that are used in today's cars( silicone and neoprene). It is rare for today's cars to leak oil or anything else because the gasket failed or due to expansion or contraction.

03 E500 and Corvette
Open the hood? I don't open the hood but once a year however it has been going to MB for service under the free service for 50K plan. I have looked and there is a light layer of dust. I did have an issue using 1 qt of oil in 4,000 miles and took it to the dealer. I saw oil on the upper engine at the intake. The dealer waved a wand and now oil consumption is back to normal. Now what I really think happened was they left the oil plug loose because the leak was so easy to fix.

Besides the E500 is my wife's car . Now my Corvette is white glove clean at 70,000 miles.
