Stinky AC
I have had my AC checked last year and nothing was found so they sprayed a deodorizer into the unit and all seemed fine. This year it is back and my dealer sprayed it again even though it is in the last year of warranty (powertrain). This time it lasted for 3 weeks and the smell is back. I have not seen any water dripping from the underside of the car lately and wondered if that was my problem so I decided to check out the drain tube under the car beside the tranny. I put the car on jack stands, started the engine with AC on max and then got under to see if water was present. What I found was air coming from the tube because the fan was on high and that proves no blockages. So were is the water that condensates??? This was my complaint last year so they took it apart and found nothing. You know that as soon as I got home I looked under the car to see if water was dripping and to my surprise it was, not now though and the smell of mould or mildew is back. Am I the only one with AC smells???

Thanks for the reply. The TSB mentioned a slanted heater box and that is what I mentioned to the service guy. I suggested that moisture was remaining in the box causing the musty smell. I have never had this problem with any other car I have owned and feel that it is a design flaw. I hope my 02 C230 Kompressor is covered here?? Guess I will find out when I pick up the car.

When Corvette's have this problem the drain to the evap is usually partially plugged then mold begins to form in the water that remains. I agree to disinfect is the right thing to kill the mold but make sure all the water is draining out of the evap. The Corvette has a rubber type drain valve under the evap. Don't know what the MB has but worth a look. Best of luck Jim

New Heater Box
I just got my car back and with some good results. My dealer agrees that the heater box needs replacing but is not sure if a slanted box is available in Canada. I gave him the TSB # but being a US one he can't get it. He will contact MB Canada to see if it is available here and if it will be there for my Coupe ( model) The car is in the last year of warranty but only the power train but it did have trouble last year while in the 4 year everything warranty so they say they will still take care of me. That sounds good to me but hope to get a revised heater box put in so not to have the same problem later. Wish me luck !

Revised Box
Just heard from my Dealer and a revised Evaporator box is on its way and will be put into my C230 Coupe in about a week. The AC was worked on while under warranty so it will be put in at no cost even though it is in the last year of power train warranty. Makes me feel good about MB Canada and my dealer.
