Mass Air Flow sensor

What would cause the MAF sensor to fail? My W203 has it replaced twice.

What kind of air filter are you using?

Not normal. 180,000 km on the original MAF for me. I don't know what could wreck a MAF other than a bad air cleaner. Just unlucky? I doubt it, maybe something else in the MAF circuitry making it look bad? Could only guess.

is the air filter placed correctly, all the corners are stuck in their place? maybe the maf wasn;t clamped right to the tubes when you changed it? next time you need an air filter change, also clean the maf sensor insert with some maf cleanser (crc makes one i think), and don;t forget to vacuum the area before putting in the new air filter.

MAF sensors can fail due to oil from a bad seal in the engine creeping back down air intake and covering platinum wires. Can be cleaned using Isopropyl Alcohol.... CLassic CLK230 Kompressor problem!

Had this problem before...check the wires that connect to the maf...unplg the connector and wiggle the wires sometimes they will pull out inside the plug....there is no reason for two complete mafs to be bad ( not enough moving parts to be that bad)....there are little brass connectors inside the connector check em all...the little pieces cost about .20 cents but are often bad....it's worth a try...tell the mechanic to test the plug by connecting the computer and wiggle it around...the computer will fluctuate alot
