Need Suggestions.... BAS ESP ETS Light on

Car: 1999 ML 430

Fiancé said the both the ESP/Bas light, and ETS light were lite in the ML. Also, her cruise control was not working at all. The ML has no power loss, can easy go into gear, and seems "normal" other than the lights.

I did the steering wheel lock to lock test... lights stayed on....

I think it is the brake sensor behind the pedal.... does that sound right?

Here is the link: BRAKE SWITCH

The most common cause is the brake light switch that you already mentioned. The second most common on that age vehicle is burnt contacts on the relay for the ABS pump.

The light will need to be cleared regardless.

Is it possible to clear the light without any tools for codes?

On the link people were changing the switch and having the lights go off.... at least it seemed that way.

Burt contacts on the relay for the ABS pump.... Where is that located?

Thanks!

probably the stop lamp switch. really really common. on the ml's, alot of time the tail lights or brake lights wont work as weel, when the switch is bad. that is the most common problem to illuminate the esp/bas lights on those cars.

Update

They gave me the wrong switch the first week.... pulled out the old (which was broken) and took it to the dealer....

I replaced the new switch in about 5 minutes and turned the car on......BAM NO CODES!!!!

Took her for a test drive and the cruise now works.

Those brake switches are super crappy parts!

If you purchased the latest part number its a much better switch. Most all euro cars have had problems with the switch including VW. Just do not get a switch off of EBay many sellers are selling the old part and some are even selling failed switches in new boxes!!
