ELF oil?

Anyone ever hear of it?

My local mechanic is charging me 85 bucks for my oil change and is using ELF oil. I wanted to get the thumbs up before taking it to him. He is very trusted with MB and every one of my friends goes to him. But is it worth it or just have him put the cheaper Mobile 1 in their?

And what Grade oil is he supposed to use on my CL?

This is a link that will get you to Elf Oil.
I would use 0W 40 Mobil 1.. It is recomended by Mercedes so I would suppose there is a reason they recomend it..
I notice they show BMW but not Mercedes on that chart!

AMSoil is what I use. My SA is even a dealer for it.

That's about what I paid for synthetic in the past, but my new MB-trained mechanic insists on Mobil One!

I wouldn't gripe, but I'd be interested to see what others have to say about Elf.

In any case check that the oil is approved for your MB:
http://www.whnet.com/4x4/oil.html

Typically MB 229.5 or 229.51 for cars with diesel particulate filter.

ELF is a major player in Europe/worldwide. You know them as TOTAL in the USA. They offer many oils that meet the exact needs (229.xx) of your car.

I've got mutiple UOAs covering M1 0W40 and one of the ELF oils. All UOAs have been excellent, the ELF UOAs showed slightly better wear metals data.

Your mechanic is making an excellent rec for your car.

Enjoy.

ELF oils are excellent, they just are not marketed in the US, like the other brands. Very popular back in Europe....
