CamShaft Solenoid
Hi,
I drive a 2003 C230 Kompressor and the dealer said my camshaft solenoid is leaking oil into the O2 sensor and it will cost me about $2,000 to fix. What exactly is a camshaft solenoid? What does it do and where is it located? Can I fix this myself?

it needs a whole engine wire harness with new camshaft connectors ,oil is inside the harness and the o2 connectors are filled with oil ,you might want let the dealer do this one ,it takes about 6 hours to do and clear any codes ,hope this helps ,

We own an early 2004 C230 Kompresser and have just rec a letter from the dealer (MB of Sarasota -Fl) that they want to perform a technical upgrade at no cost to us of the Camshaft solenoid so check with your dealer or mine about this. MB of Sarasota (toll free 888-212-0471) good luck.

warranty work completed and now I'm losing oil
I took my car (2004 C230K Sedan) to a dealer for tire installation and they performed the camshaft solenoid work under a recall campaign. That was a week ago. Since then I've driven the car about 600 miles (including a long trip) and have had to add 2 quarts of oil. Under the hood I can see oil sprayed around the front of the engine block. I'm guessing there is a connection to the service and the oil consumption/spray as I never had this problem before. Looks like another trip to the dealer.

Have anyone done this "camshaft solenoids" (campaign 2009100001) upgrade/replacement recently? Is there a link with P0171 / P0128 codes with this campaign, and is it true that only certain VIN range was issued a recall for this particular campaign? Thanks

We did this camshaft solenoid recall campaign back in June 2011, and after 4 months later, the check engine light is on, and the code is P0171... Not sure if it is related... anyone had similar situation? We just replaced the MAF back in April 2011 this year...thanks!

Cam Solenoid Recall
I took my 07 CLK550 in for an unrelated problem. While the car was there it looks like the dealer "installed adapter cables for cam solinoids" along with a cable tie at no charge. Part of the recall campaign. I hope nothing goes wrong with what they did. I hadn't had the car in to the dealer in a couple years.
