Question MB TECH 208 Couple of questions

My Jan build 209 pulled to the right since new and the steering wheel pointed to the right, now after having the motor mounts replaced the car still pulls right but the steering wheel needs to pointed left to keep the car straight. I would imagine since the steering rack needed to be removed to replace the motor mounts it may have efffected the direction of the steering wheel. I have to go back for an alignment (they did not have time to do this today), anything I need to be aware of since the steering rack was removed etc and what needs to be done to get everything back on the right track.

Thanks Dave,

That's unusual, but perhaps they disturbed the tie rods or shifted the rack slightly. Every time I do motor mounts on a 209 or 211, I just remove the steering rack bracket and let it hang down by the tie rods to allow room to get the mounts in and out, not disturbing the alignment settings. Different methods for different people I guess.

Thanks Dave. Should a normal alignment take care of this? Also is the rack adjusted in an alignment?

Regards,

An alignment should take care of it. The rack is not adjusted during an alignment.

The alignment fixed it but they scracthed my rims were the tool attacthes to the wheel, I know its supposed to go in between the wheel and tire carefully but.....I'm so pissed

Did you bring it to their attention? They should take care of the issue for you.

All MB dealers should use tools that do not attach between the wheel and the tire but into the 5 little holes between the holes for the wheel bolts.
(Or do you have non-MB wheels without those holes?)

Have stock clk 500 amg wheels with the little holes you refer to. Don't know why they did not use them

Hey Patrick any thoughts on my other thread and the cooling fan vibration?

Thanks
