S430
Shifter locked

I drive an S430 ,1990 with 47,000 miles. Suddenly the shifter is stuck to park position. What is the problem???

Many cars have a brake switch that must connect to allow the shifter to move from P. If the switch fails the shifter will lock in park. Don't know if the S430 has this switch but you might check. It normally operates brake lights, turns off cruise and releases shifter. Could be more than one switch I haven't looked into the 1990 model.

Is this an expensive repair and what am i looking at??
