Fuel Filter Installation Procedure

Hey,
Whats the point of disconnecting the battery before continuing?

PeachPartsWiki: Replacing the Gasoline Fuel Filter

Reason why I'm asking is because I don't have my radio code if i were to remove my battery..

The point is that if you accidentally touch the wrench from a hot connection to ground you could fry some electronics (expensive), shock yourself enough to cause a minor injury or ignite gasoline fumes and total the car.

You can get your radio code with a visit to the dealer. Just show up at service with your DL and registration. You can also rig up a 'memory' battery from a 12v insert connector for the cigar lighter socket and a 9v battery. Parts at Radio Shack or similar.

They're pretty easy to make. One part I didn't mention is a 9v battery connector. It's a plastic strip with male/female snaps like the top of a 9v battery. Wire it to the cigar lighter adapter so that the red wire is connected to the center electrode of the adapter and the black to the side electrodes (ground). If you're buying an adapter be sure to get one with spring loaded side adapters. The cigar lighter socket on MB is a little larger diameter than most.

I believe Gregs210 did a little DIY on one. Either here or over on benzworld_dot_org. You can also buy them. Snapon (Blue Point) has one but I imagine it's a lot more expensive than the two parts I mentioned.

Good luck.

No. It doesn't power your radio. It only provides enough voltage to maintain the memory of the radio.

You don't have to remove your battery. Just disconnect the ground cable (negative) and secure it so it can't accidentally recontact.

Well, you might want to hold off on the Genius part.

I suggest you make the 'memory saver' as described in Gregs210 DIY on benzworld_dot_org. See here:

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w210...-settings.html

The one for the cigar lighter socket will not work if you car loses power to the cigar lighter when the key is off. This one with alligator clips can be attached to the charging post under the hood or the battery cables themselves. Sorry for the misinformation.
