Unhappy Sunroof Cable Problem

Hello all,

I am replacing the sunroof cable on an 88' 300E and things were going fine until I started to remove the old cable. I follow the workshop manual and when I pull the old cable out after using the motor to push it as far as it would go, the cable comes out only about 25-30 inches and then it stops. It seems to get stuck somewhere inside the tube that the cable rides in. Anyone has any idea on where it's getting stuck and how to remove it? Thanks.

It’s been long time since I have done this job, and I have done it few times. I recall I always had to take off the cable housing pass the motor, if I recall correctly, it’s about 20-25” steel tubing (Z shape) that house the sun roof cable when the sunroof is open. The cable may have a clip at the end of it that prevents it from coming out.
Most of the time, I found out the plastic gear inside the sunroof drive is stripped and the cable is fine.

Thanks, I have already removed that and the cable runs freely throught the motor. After all of the cable runs through the motor I can pull it out even more but not all the way. Is there a place in the tube that is under the headliner that the cable might bind?
