need help with mechanical trunk lock

hi, my trunk opens with the remote and with the button in the car, but the trunk won't open with the mechanical key. doors do open with the mechanical key though. also the emergency trunk release button inside the trunk doesn't disengage the trunk lock. is this possibly an easy fix? what would you analyze as being wrong? it's a 2004 cl600.
thanks for your replies.
btw, the key turns in the lock and the button works, but the trunk wont unlock manually.

removed the trunk liner and analyzed what i could. every function works except the mechanical key doesn't lock, or unlock the trunk. also the emergency button in the trunk doesn't work. i did find a brown wire disconnected in the trunk lid, assume it from the emergency trunk button, but couldn't find any place to connect it. i believe the lock cylinder is faulty. the cylinder turns and button depresses, but the lock will not lock, or unlock with the key. any help would be greatly appreciated. the dealer wants $817 to change the locking mechanism. don't think this will work because everything in the mechanism is working except for the mechanical key which leads me to believe that the lock cylinder is bad, not the entire mechanism. 2004 cl600. your advice is needed!!!!!

I assume you have tried the key in the door and it works? If so, it does sound like the lock cylinder is damaged. You may be able to take it apart and clean it. Good luck.

thank you. yes it the key does work in the door lock. it sounds like rebuilding the cylinder is above my pay grade. the trunk lock does turn with the key inserted. i will try more wd40 in the cylinder, but i believe a pin must have come dislodged. can the dealer handle the cylinder problem without replacing the whole locking mechanism? any other suggestions?
i appreciate your feedback.

If the key is turning then it can't be a pin in the cylinder that is stuck or whatever. If a pin was sticking upwards or something similar, then it would be like you were putting the wrong key in and it wouldn't turn. Maybe whatever is supposed to turn with the cylinder to unlock the trunk manually isn't engaging? I would try disassembling it. Worst case scenario...you'll have to have the dealer replace it anyways.

thank you again for your quick response and great expertise. this is a puzzling problem. i think i will try a little more wd40 and go from there. if all else fails i will try removing the locking mechanism and trying to find out why the cylinder when turned won't disengage the lock. seems like everything is working properly, yet the lock won't engage even though all other locking and unlocking functions work properly. btw i did check the rod and it is attached and obviously works to unlatch the trunk with all other functions.
really appreciate your knowledgeable feedback.
